CURRY MALLETT

THE CHRISTMAS TREAT was held in the Baptist School-room on Tuesday. Tea, provided by Mrs. Baxter BAKER and helpers, was much enjoyed by scholars and friends. It was followed by games, recitations, and carol singing around the well lit and decorated Christmas-tree. Miss SLADE, a former teacher, presented the prizes to the scholars. The regular attendance prize was won by Herbert FAULKNER. The Rev F. J. SAUNDERS expressed thanks to all the helpers for the tea and for decorating.


HAMBRIDGE

WHIST DRIVE. - Mr. F. WHITE was M.C. at the whist drive in the Hut on Friday. Prize-winners were:- Ladies – 1, Mr. R. EARLEY, Ile Brewers; 2, Mr. Bert CALBE (playing as ladies). Gent.'s – 1, Mr. F. SPEARING, Ile Brewers; 2, Mr. J. CHARD.

A DANCE, organised by Mrs. CLATWORTHY and Miss P. CROUCH, in aid of the Hambridge Speedway and School Funds, was very well supported. The hut was artistically decorated by Miss CROUCH and friends from Bridgwater. Music was supplied by Fred PERRY and his dance orchestra. Refreshments were served by Mrs. T. MALE, Mrs. J. GLOVER and the Misses G. GLOVER, E. CROUCH and P. CROUCH. Net proceeds amounted to about £2 10s.

PARISH SOCIAL

The parish social, arranged by the Mothers' Union in aid of the children's summer outing and Working Party funds, attracted a large gathering. Mrs. HALLETT was M.C., and all helpers were thanked by Mrs. HUDSON (enrolling member).

There were four sketches, those taking parts being:- Mothers' Union sketch, Mesdames LOUCH, CHARD, HOCKEY and GRAY; children's sketch, Mary PAYNE, Dulcie CAVE and Doreen LOUCH; young people's sketch, the Misses Violet BUNSTON, Marjorie BRISTER, Betty WEBBER, Eileen McLENNAN and Hazel PEARCE. Mr. A. R. HOSSACK brought a party of friends from Long Sutton, who acted a sketch, the players being Mr. and Mrs. HOSSACK, Mr. CURTIS, Mr. GOULD and Mr. HARVEY. The Misses MANSER, also from Long Sutton gave a display of dancing, with Mr. MANSOR accompanying. Mrs. HALLETT contributed a topical song, accompanied by Mrs. C. BRISTER. There was also community singing of popular choruses.

Dancing and competitions added to the fun. The judges were Mrs. HALLETT and Mrs. LACEY. Spot dance prizes were won by Mrs. G. GLOVER and Mrs. DADE. Mrs. ALEXANDER and Mrs. HUDSON won the whist prizes, and Mr. and Mrs. LOUCH were winners of the special competition.

Refreshments were served by Mrs. PEDDRICK and members of the M.U., and the door stewards were Messrs. STEVENS and L. MEAD, assisted by Mrs. BUNSTON, Mrs. J. MALE won the mystery prize, and the competition, organised by Mrs. T. MALE, was won by Mrs. G. GLOVER and Mrs. SALWAY.

WEDDING OF MISS BETTY OATEN

The wedding was solemnised at Westbury-on-Trym Parish Church recently of Mr. Roy Vickers WOOD, of 9, Radnor-road, Henleaze, Bristol, and Miss Betty Irene OATEN, eldest daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Harry G. OATEN, who at one time resided at Winterhay Farm, Ilminster.

Miss OATEN, who is a former Ilminster Grammer School girl, was attired in a London tan two-piece fur-trimmed dress with brown hat, veil and shoes to tone. She carried a bouquet of carnations.

The bridesmaids were the Misses Rosemary and Kitty OATEN, sisters of the bride, and the “best man” was Lieut.-Commander F. W. HARRIS.


FARMS LEFT TO FORMER HOUSEKEEPER

Captain William Washington HANCOCK late Sherwood Foresters (Derbyshire Regiment), of Westcott Farm, Clatworthy, near Wiveliscombe, who died on October 17th, aged 81, left £30,785, with net personalty £24,977, estate duty £3,000.

Probate has been granted to his nephew, William Prestwood HANCOCK, of Chiselhurst, Kent, and Frank RISDON, solicitor, of Williton, Somerset.

Captain HANCOCK left £1,000 to his niece, Joyce GRILLS; £500 each to Thomas Kent RIDLER and George SLOAN; £300 each to Alice BULLEN and Elizabeth WAY; £500 to his sister-in-law, Louisa HANCOCK; £1,000, Westcott Farm, Glasses Farm, Waysdown, and his indoor and outdoor effects to his former housekeeper, Jenny MAXWELL; £200 to his housekeeper, Lucy BEER, if still in his service and £100 to her sister, Dorothy HAWKINS; an annuity of £52 to his late male cook, Narian NUBBOO, of New Delhi, if his whereabouts can be ascertained within one year; £300 to General R. MARSHALL, “of my old regiment”; £1,000 and an annuity of £25 to Sydney ROLFE; White's and Gardener's Farm to his nephew, George HANCOCK; several specific bequests and the residue as to one-third to his nephew, William Prestwood HANCOCK, and two-thirds to his nephew, Anthony HANCOCK.
