DEATH OF MR. JOSEPH OATEN
The funeral took place on Tuesday of Mr. Joseph OATEN age 69, who died on Friday of last week at his home, 87, East Reach, Taunton. Mr. OATEN had been in failing health for many years, but his condition became worse about two years [?] following the death of his brother, [?] Jack OATEN, in a Taunton motor accident[?]. He had lived in Taunton all his [?], and for many years was in the employ of[?] Mr. J. DIMOND, of East Reach, as a dyer[?] and cleaner. He was a regular attendant at the Temple Methodist Church. He served during the Great War in the Labour Corps attached to the Somerset Regiment. He leaves a wife, three daughters and two sons.
The funeral service at the Temple Methodist Chapel was conducted by the minister, the Rev. G. H. McCORMICK, who also officiated at the interment at St. Mary's Cemetery. The hymn “Abide with me” was sung at the service. The mourners were:- Mrs. J. OATEN (wife), Mr. C. OATEN (son), Mr. and Mrs. E. M. JONES (son-in-law and daughter), Mr. and Mrs. V. POMEROY (son-in-law and daughter), Mr. and Mrs. E. SINGLEHURST (son-in-law and daughter), Mr. and Mrs. A. OATEN (son and daughter-in-law).
The funeral arrangements were made by Messrs. E. E. WHITE & Son. Ltd., East Reach, Taunton.
