TAUNTON

WELL-KNOWN INSURANCE AGENT

FUNERAL OF MR. JOHN HURFORD.

The funeral of Mr. John HURFORD, aged 71, of 6, Noble-street, Taunton, who died on Tuesday of last week, took place at the Victoria Methodist Church on Saturday afternoon. Mr. HURFORD, a native of Bathpool, had lived in the district all his life. In his younger days he had been a gardener for Mr. HAWKER at Bathpool House, but was for 31 years a principal agent for the Pearl Assurance Company, of Bridge-street, Taunton. He retired on pension nearly ten years ago. He had not been in good health for about a year. “Johnny” HURFORD, as he was known throughout the district, was a great lover of birds, but was particularly interested in parrots, and had kept one for some years. His wife died in 1932. He leaves one son. Morris, who is a popular employee of Messrs. STILLMANS, butchers, of Station-road.

FAVOURITE HYMNS.

The service in Victoria Methodist Church was conducted by the Minister (the Rev. W. Basil BOWYER). The organist was Miss L. BURBIDGE, and Mr. HURFORD's favourite hymns, “Rock of Ages” and “Abide with me” were sung. He requested that these hymns should be sung when lying ill, a short while ago. The psalm “The Lord is my Shepherd” was chanted. The Rev. W. B. BOWYER also officiated at the interment which followed in St. Mary's Cemetery.

The mourners were:- Mr. Morris HURFORD (son), Mrs. E. RICHARDS, Mrs. L. CRIDGE (sisters), Mr. L. TROTT (brother-in-law), Mrs. A. VICKERY (sister-in-law), Mrs. A. JANES (niece), Mr. A. C. CLARKE, Mrs. F. J. JONES, Mrs. W. HUNT, Mr. and Mrs. J. STONE, Bridgwater, and Mr. B. WYATT (friends), Mrs. B. TROTT (sister) was unable to attend owing to illness.

Among the friends at the church were Mr. H. N. HAYMAN (manager) and Mr. C. E. BETTY (representing the Pearl Assurance Company), Mr. ANDREWS and Miss REED.

There were nearly thirty floral tributes, including a marble floral vase from “Walt, Bert and Allan” (old chums).

The funeral arrangements were made by Messrs. E. E. WHITE & Son, Ltd., East Reach, Taunton.
