GOLDEN WEDDING
MR. AND MRS. R. DYTE, TAUNTON
A well-known Taunton couple, Mr. and Mrs. Richard DYTE, of 5, Grays-road, celebrate their golden wedding anniversary to-day (Saturday). They were married on April 6th, 1896, at St. James' Church, Taunton, by the Vicar, the Rev. G. KINGDON.
The couple have lived throughout their married life in the Taunton district. They have lived at Grays-road for 13 years and before that they were at Hillfarrance for 14 years, during which time Mrs. DYTE carried on a small business and post-office.
Mr. DYTE, who is 72, is the only surviving son of the late Mr and Mrs. DYTE, of Milverton. He was a mason in the G.W.R. engineering department at Taunton until seven years ago, when he retired, after 40 years' service. As a sportsman, Mr. DYTE was, in his earlier life, a playing member for Milverton and other local Rugby teams, and he still takes a keen interest in the handling code. A fine hurdler in his youth he took part in athletic meetings throughout the county and won several trophies. He is a keen gardener. He is a member of the Ancient Order of Foresters, having joined at Milverton as a juvenile.
BIRTHDAY ON SAME DAY
Mrs. DYTE, formerly Miss Matilda Ellen TALBOT, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. TALBOT, of Taunton, will celebrate her 70th birthday at the same time as her golden wedding anniversary. She is a member of the Taunton branch of the G.W.R, Social and Educational Guild.
Mr. DYTE has made a good recovery from his recent serious illness, whilst his wife continues to enjoy good health.
They have two children, Mr. R. W. DYTE, of Laburnum-street, Taunton, and Mrs. R. THORNE, of Halse. There are five grandchildren.
The Mayor and Mayoress (Mr. and Mrs. S. H. PAYNE) will attend the golden wedding celebration at Grays-road to-day.
