HONOUR FOR COUNTY REGIMENT

TAUNTON TO CONFER FREEDOM OF BOROUGH

Taunton Town Council met in Committee on Tuesday and decided to confer the Freedom of the Borough on the County Regiment, the Somerset Light Infantry. It is hoped that the ceremony will be the central feature of the Victory-day celebrations on June 8th.

The Town Clerk (Mr. L. ATWELL) submitted correspondence he had had with the Colonel of the Regiment indicating difficulties about the day, because the present Battalions of the Regiment are serving overseas. It is, however, hoped that a representative detachment with band will be available to receive the honour. The ceremony will take place in Vivary Park in the morning. The Council also approved arrangements for children's sports in the Park in the afternoon and the flood-lighting of prominent buildings.
