Mr. A. BROOM, of Taunton

Cremation at Bristol

A stroke, due to heart trouble and accelerated by gas poisoning, was the cause of the death of Mr. Albert BROOM (77), 19, Alma-street, Taunton. The Coroner, Mr. P. E. G. SMITH, returned a verdict of accidental death after hearing medical evidence at an inquest on Friday.

Mr. BROOM, a retired plasterer, was found unconscious with his wife in their living-room after a gas main had broken in the street outside. Mrs. BROOM died the same day.

Dr. C. E. M. WARE, who had made a post-mortem examination, said that but for the gas accident Mr. BROOM would probably have lived “at least one or two years.”

Keen Sportsman

Mr. BROOM, who was born at Taunton, was in business as a plasterer for a number of years, later working with Messrs. P. & D. MANNING, builders and decorators, of Albermarle-road. He was a keen follower of rugby football and cricket, having played both games in his younger days, and a well-known whist player, who had captained the Emeralds in the Taunton Whist League.

Cremation took place at Bristol on Monday.
