LANGPORT.

PETTY SESSIONS, Monday. - Before Mr. C. L. EASTLAKE and other magistrates. - Charles MILLER, Westport; Richard PITTARD, Barrington; Archibald RAISEN, South Petherton; Annie TALBOT, Westport, Herbert PEPPARD, Aller; and Albert FOURACRE, Picts Hill, were summoned for contravening the lighting regulations, and in each case the Bench imposed a fine of 5s. - Albert FOURACRE, Picts Hill, was summoned for non-payment of his poor rate. - Wm. BANYARD, assistant-overseer, produced the rate book, in which FOURACRE was shown to be rated. Amount due was 16s. - Defendant protested that he was not the occupier of the premises, and had not been for over 12 months. - The Bench made an order for payment. - Alice HULL, Huish Episcopi, was summoned by the police for using obscene language at Langport on the 11th September. - P.S. TREEBY proved the case, and handed in his report showing the language made use of by the defendant. - Fined 10s. - The Bench granted a protection order to Mrs. Ada LONG in respect of the license of the Red Lion, Somerton, until the next Transfer Sessions.


HUISH EPISCOPI.

IN HOSPITAL. - Private F. E. L. BUTT, of the D.O.L.I., a former member of the staff of the Langport and Somerton Herald, was wounded in the head with shrapnel whilst in the advance. He is at present in hospital at Canterbury, and writes saying his wound is going on pretty well and does not give him much pain. His many friends wish him a speedy recovery.


SHEPTON BEAUCHAMP.

WAR CASUALTY. - Notification was received at Newbury, Berks, on Saturday, of the death in hospital in France of Private Arthur William STEVENS, of the Devons. He was a native of Shepton Beauchamp, and subsequently at Oxford, and assistant-superintendent of the Prudential in Newbury. The hospital was bombed by the enemy, and deceased died of his wounds. He leaves a widow and two children.


HIGH HAM.

PRIVATE A. PRIDDLE WOUNDED. - Mr. W. J. PRIDDLE received the news on Tuesday that his son, Private A. PRIDDLE, had again been wounded and is at present in a base hospital in France.
