DEATH OF MR. JOHN MATTOCK. - Many will hear with deep regret of the death of Mr. John MATTOCK, who passed peacefully away at his residence, No. 9, Mary-street, on Wednesday morning, after a long illness patiently borne. Mr. MATTOCK was well known in the town, having been borough school attendance officer for over 35 years, prior to which he had been an inspector on the old Bristol and Exeter railway. He was highly respected by all who knew him. Quiet and courteous in the manner in which he did his work, he had a kindly, genial manner with children, and all with whom he came in contact regret his loss. He leaves a widow and one son, Mr. Raymond MATTOCK, with whom the deepest sympathy is felt. Mr. MATTOCK was a regular attendant at St. George's Church, Wilton, for over 35 years, and, in accordance with his wish, the funeral took place at Wilton Churchyard on Monday afternoon, and in addition to the family mourners there were also present the Mayor (Alderman H. J. Van TRUMP), Mr. S. WIDDICOMBE (representing the Town Clerk), Alderman G. HINTON, Councillors E. T. ALMS, and J. E. KINGSBURY, Mr. C. TITE, Deputy Chief Constable BROWN, Messes. J. DUCKWORTH, and E. HOLBUD, and the school nurses. The service was conducted by the Vicar (the Rev. J. N. BOUGHTON).
