GEORGE DUDDERIDGE, OF HILLFARRANCE, AND DISAPPOINTED NUPTIALS. - George DUDDERIDGE, of Allarford, in Hillfarrance, was the second child and eldest son of George DUDDERIDGE, of Norton Fitzwarren, Allarford, and Hillcommon, in Heathfield, by Fanny, his wife, eldest daughter of Robert JENNINGS, of Hillfarrance. He was born at Allarford, and baptised at Hillfarrance, 11th November, 1787, but the record of his life is sad. In the course of time he became engaged to be married to Mary CATTLE, of Hillfarrance. He was duly called home in church, and every preparation and arrangement had been made for the wedding, but as he was walking to the house where he and his bride were about to reside, he dropped down dead, and was found lying in a ditch in his father's garden at Allarford. What made the whole thing most sad was the fact that on the very day fixed for the nuptials, viz., 12th April, 1812, George DUDDERIDGE was buried in the churchyard at Hillfarrance, while the things prepared for the bridal feast were partaken of at his funeral. Although the intended bride was thus not to be connected with the would-be bridegroom's family, yet her descendants were. She afterwards married a LOVELL, of Hillfarrance, and had issue, a son and a daughter. The son, Thomas LOVELL, married Charlotte HAYES, of Hillfarrance, whose mother, Martha, was George DUDDERIDGE's eldest sister, while the daughter married Aaron HAYES, of Hillcommon, in Heathfield, the famous local preacher, who was brother to Charlotte aforesaid.
