NORTH PETHERTON.

DECREE ABSOLUTE. - The decree nisi for divorce granted on January 29th, to Mr. Francis Henry Marshall MEADE, whose address was then given as The Clarence Hotel, North Petherton, near Bridgwater, was made absolute by Mr. Justice CROSSMAN in the Vacation Court on Wednesday.

HOSPITAL SUNDAY. - There was a large attendance at the Congregational Church on Sunday afternoon on the occasion of the annual service in connection with Bridgwater Hospital. Mr. J. MALTWOOD (president of the Hospital) took the chair, and an address was given by Mr. P. STURDY, who spoke of the work of the Institution, and made special reference to the valuable help given by the collectors. Solos were ably rendered by Mrs. STOCK, of Bridgwater. A house-to-house collection and the collection in the church amounted ot £7 8s 4½d.

WHIST DRIVE. - Through the kindness of Brig.-General and Mrs. H. NELSON, the North Petherton Women's League of Conservatives met at “Shovel” on Thursday afternoon for whist, and were entertained to tea. There were 30 players at the drive, and the prizes were given by Mrs. NELSON (3), Mrs. HASSALL, Miss HAWLESS?, and General NELSON. The winners were:- Miss POOLE, 151, bag; Miss JONES, 142, scarf; Miss CALLENDAR, 142, jam jar, Mrs. HILL, 142, fountain pen; Mrs BOOBYER, 142, box of handkerchiefs; Mrs. JENKINS, 140, thermos (after a cut with Mrs. WESTERN).

LATE MRS. T. MILLER. - The funeral took place on Wednesday of Mrs T. MILLER, of Hammett-street, who died at Bridgwater Hospital the previous Friday, following an operation. The deceased was well known and respected in the village and was a generous supporter of the Nursing Association, the blind, and the flower show. She was a regular attendant at the Congregational Church. Much sympathy will be felt for her husband and two sons and daughter in their sad loss. The interment at the cemetery was preceded by an impressive and largely attended service at the Congregational Church. The Rev. C. J. KINNERSLEY officiated, and the Lieut.-Commander R. N. SKINNER presided at the organ. The chief mourners were Mr. T. MILLER (husband), Miss MILLER (daughter), Messrs. W. and A. MILLER (sons), Mr. and Mrs. W. PARKER and Miss J. PARKER (brother, sister-in-law and niece), Mr. and Mrs. C. PARKER (brother and sister-in-law), Mr. Jas. PARKER (brother), Mrs. S. MILLER (sister-in-law), Mr. and Mrs. W. SOMERS (brother-in-law and sister-in-law), Mr. P. PARKER and Mr. I. PARKER (nephews), Mr. J. RUCKLEY, Mrs. SELLICK?. The bearers were Messrs. F. JENKINS, F. WILLIAMS, S. CARKETT, S. HUBBARD, E. WIGLEY, and H. RUCKLEY. Among those present were Mrs. F. ROBERTS, Mrs. S. MILLER, Mrs. W. CLATWORTHY, Mr. J. SPENDER, Mr. F. SENDELL, Mr. J. GRAY, Mrs. J. WARREN, Mr. C. W. CLATWORTHY, Mrs. F. GUNNINGHAM, Mrs. G. T. CARTER, Mrs. HILL, Mr. Reg. JENKINS, Mrs. Robt. CLATWORTHY, Miss Joyce CLATWORTHY, Mrs. HARGINGE, Mrs. ROWSELL, Mrs. C. GARDNER, Mrs. HIGGINS, Mrs. R. LAVIS, Mrs. CARKETT, Mrs. CARKETT, junr., Mrs. SWAYNE, Mrs. WILKINS, Mr. WILLIAMS, Miss W. HODGES, Miss J. MILLER, Mrs. T. LAVIS, Mr. C. AISH, Mr. J. SELLICK, Mrs. S. HUBBARD, Mrs. C. BINDING, Mrs. PARSONS, Mrs. HAWKINS, and Mrs KINNERSLEY. There were a number of beautiful floral tributes, Messrs. J. CLATWORTHY & Sons carried out the funeral arrangements.

THE FUNERAL took place at the cemetery on Wednesday afternoon, following a service in the Wesleyan chapel, of Mrs. Sarah Elizabeth DOWN, widow of Mr. James DOWN. The deceased lady, who was highly esteemed in the village, was prominently identified with the Wesleyan and Congregational Churches, and was a vice-president of the Women's Temperance Union.


SHEPTON BEAUCHAMP.

CAMPANOLOGY. - A peal was rung on the Parish Church bells on Saturday by eight members of the Dioceean Guild of Ringers, in three hours and nineteen minutes. The peal, a novel one, was rung in the South-west counties of England for the first time, and was one of Kent and Oxford treble Bob Major spliced. It contained 5,280 changes, and the methods were changed 80 times during the peal. W. H. POOLE, 1; A. H. REED, 2; A. J. WYATT, 3; P. MERSON?, 4; S. G. COLES, 5; W. G. GIGG, 7; J. HUNT, 8. The peal was conducted by J. HUNT, and was rung to celebrate Mr. and Mrs. A. J. WYATT's silver wedding. The dingers are from the three Taunton churches, and desire through this medium to thank the Rector (Rev. F. B. TAYLOR) for his kindness.


HUISH EPISCOPI.

WOMEN'S INSTITUTE. - The monthly meeting, held in the Church-room on Tuesday, took the form of an old friend's party. The President (Mrs. J. KELWAY) presided over an attendance which number about 100. At the commencement the meeting stood for a moment in silence as a mark of respect to the late Mrs. CRUMB, a former member. The first part of the programme consisted of songs and recitations by Miss HUGHES, Mrs. RENDLE, Mrs. F. LEWIS, Mrs. J. MARTIN, and Mr. W. E. MARTIN. The accompanists were Mrs. J. W. PLAXTON and Mrs. P. WHELLER. During an interval refreshments were served by Mrs. BOWN, Mrs. HORWOOD, and Mrs. HEWITT. The second part was a humorous item, entitled “Mrs. Jarley's Waxworks.” which had been arranged by Miss PHIPPS, Mrs. J. KELWAY, and Mrs. DENMAN, and was in charge of Miss C. PHIPPS and Mrs. RENDLE.
