The examination of Hester STUCKEY singlewoman now residing in the parish of Kingsbury Episcopi in the said county taken the 12th day of Oct 1786

 

Who upon her oath said that on the 21st day of August last past she had born of her body in the said parish of Kingsbury Episcopi a female bastard child which is become chargeable to the said parish and that Richard MALE of Kingsbury Episcopi aforesaid Labourer is the real and only father of the said bastard child.

The ORDER of Henry RODBARD & John HANNING Esquires – Two of his Majefty’s Juftices of the Peace of and for the faid county – One whereof is of the Quorum, and both refiding in or next unto the Limits of the Parish Church within the Parifh of Kingsbury Episcopi in the faid County, made the 12th Day of October in the Year of our Lord One Thoufand, Seven Hundred, and eighty six concerning a female Baftard Child lately born in the Parifh of Kingsbury Episcopiaforefaid, of the Body of Hester STUCKEY Singlewoman, as followeth.

WHEREAS it hath appeared unto us the faid Juftices, as well upon the Complaint of the Church-wardens and Overfeers of the Poor of the faid Parifh of Kingsbury Episcopi as upon the Oath of the faid Hester STUCKEY that fhe the faid Hester STUCKEY was on the 21st Day of August last delivered of a female Baftard Child, in the faid Parifh of Kingsbury Episcopi and that the fame is become chargeable to the Parisfh of Kingsbury Episcopi aforefaid and further that Richard MALE of Kingsbury Episcopi aforesaid Labourer is the Father thereof:

AND whereas the said Richard MALE hath this day appeared before us and hath shewn? no cause why an order should not be made on him as the reputed father of the said Bastard??? child

We the faid Juftices do therefore, upon Examination of the Caufe and Circumftances of the Premifes, as well upon the Oath of the said Hester STUCKEY as otherwife, hereby adjudge, that the faid female Baftard Child was born in the faid Parifh of Kingsbury Episcopi and do alfo adjudge him the faid Richard MALE to be the real and reputed Father of the faid Baftard Child.

AND we do order, as well for the better Relief of the faid Parifh of Kingsbury Episcopi as for the Suftentation and Relief of the faid Baftard Child, that the faid Richard MALE fhall and do forthwith, on Notice of this our Order, pay of caufe to be paid to the church-wardens and Overfeers of the Poor of the faid Parifh of Kingsbury Episcopi or fome or one of them, the fum of seventeen shillings & six pence for and towards the Lying-in of the faid Hester STUCKEY and the Maintencance of the faid Baftard Child, from the Birth thereof to the Time of making this our Order.

AND we do hereby further order, that the faid Richard MALE fhall and do alfo pay or caufe to be paid to the Church-wardens and Overfeers of the Poor of the faid Parifh of Kingsbury Episcopi for the Time being, or to fome or one of them, the Sum of one shilling weekly and every Week, from this Time prefent, for and towards the Keeping, Suftentation, and Maintenance of the faid Baftard Child, for fo long Time as the fame fhall be chargeable to the faid Parifh of Kingsbury Episcopi.

AND we do further order, that the faid Hester STUCKEY fhall alfo pay or caufe to be paid to the faid Church-wardens and Overfeers fo the Poor of the faid Parifh of Kingsbury Episcopi for the Time being, or to fome or one of them, the Sum of one shilling weekly and every Week, fo long as the faid Baftard Child fhall be chargeable to the faid Parifh of Kingsbury Episcopi in cafe fhe fhall not nurfe and take Care of the faid Child herfelf.
