The examinations of Solomon Male of North Curry in the said county Dairyman and Ann Male wife of Frederick Male late of Isle Brewers in the said county Labourer as to the place of the last legal settlement of the said Frederick Male & Ann Male & their four children taken on oath before us two of Her Majestys Justices of the Peace in and for the said county this 28 day of June 1843

And first the said Solomon Male on his oath saith.

I am sixty nine years old and was born at Barrington in the said county as I have heard and believe - About forty two years ago and when I was about twenty eight years old and being at that time unmarried and without a child or children I hired myself as a servant to Mr Philip Foster? of North Curry for a year, that is from Lady day to the Lady day following, at the wages of seven pounds and my board and lodging - I served Mr Foster during the whole year accordingly, and resided all the time in the parish of North Curry. I continued to live with Mr Foster as a servant in North Curry for the next following four years. I then hired myself as a yearly servant to Mr James Mead of North Curry and served him for four years in that parish. I then married my present wife Elizabeth at North Curry. After this I rented dairys in North Curry for 15 years. I then went to Ashill in the said county and rented a Dairy of 23 cows of Mr William Helliar. I had a house garden & orchard but I paid no separate rent for these premises. I gave so much a cow and had the house garden & orchard into the bargain. Since that time I have constently rented Dairies in different places and am now renting a Dairy in North Curry. The above named Frederick Male is my son by my said wife. He is thirty years old. He lived with me until he was about 15 years old, when he was bound apprentice to Mr Chorley a Baker of Taunton. There was an agreement in writing but there was no stamp on it. I paid a man whose name I do not recollect thirteen shillings for preparing it. Mr Chorley did not pay any part of the expence of making the agreement. I have enquired of Mrs Chorley, Mr Chorleys widow for the agreement but she says it is destroyed. My son lived with Mr Chorley three years and ten months and then returned to my house and lived with me until he was married - he worked as a daily Labourer during that time

And the said Ann Male on her oath saith.

I was married at Isle Brewers aforesaid to the said Frederick Male in the month of November 1834 - and lived in that parish from that time until about two months since when I was taken with my children to the Langport Union house. My husband has occasionally since our marriage carried on his trade of a Baker, and at other times worked as a daily Labourer. He has not since our marriage rented to a greater amount then seven pounds a year. My husband deserted me about three months ago, when he went away I dont know where, and I have not heard any thing of him since. I have four children by my said husband vizt - Henry aged about seven years Solomon aged about 5 years Ellen about two years and a half old and Frederick about one year old.
