The examination of Mary Ann MALE now residing in the parish of Shepton Beauchamp in the said county Widow taken this 25th day of Oct 1826.  Before us two of his Majesty’s Justices of the said County as to the settlement of John MALE her son, who upon her oath saith that about 34 years ago she married her late husband John MALE at Shepton Beauchamp aforesaid.  That her husband was a native of Barrington as she hath heard and believes and served his apprenticeship with Mr. DRAYTON of that parish as she has been told by her said husband and also by the said Mr. DRAYTON.  That when she was married she went to Barrington to live with her husband where she lived with him about two years when her said husband went as a substitute in the Somerset Militia, from which he enlisted into the fortieth Regiment and went abroad and she has not seen him since but about six years ago she heard he was serving in the third Regiment of the Buffs.  That about half a year after her husband left her she went to Shepton Beauchamp to live with the consent of the Barrington Overseers, who maintained her and the said John her son, and she has been maintained by the Parish officers of Barrington every since.
