To the Churchwardens, and others, the Overseers of the Poor of the Parish of Barrington in the County aforesaid to convey: And to the Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor of the Parish of Curry Rivell in the county aforesaid to receive and obey. These.

WHEREAS Complaint has been made by you the Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor of the Parish of Barrington aforesaid, unto us, whose Hands and Seals are hereunto set, two of his Majesty's Justices of the Peace, in and for the County of Somerset aforesaid, (whereof one is of the Quorum,) that Ann MALE Singlewoman hath lately intruded herself into your said parish of Barrington there to inhabit as a Parishioner, contrary to the Laws relating to the Settlement of the Poor; and is become chargeable to your said Parish of Barrington

We therefore upon due Examination and Enquiry made into the Premises aforesaid, and on the Oath of the said Ann MALE this Day taken before us in Writing, or otherwise, do find and adjudge the same to be true: And we do also adjudge that the last place of the legal settlement of her the said Ann MALE was and is the parish of Curry Rivell aforesaid.

THESE are therefore in his Majesty's name, to order and require you the Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor of the Parish of Barrington aforesaid, that you, some, or one of you, do forthwith remove and convey her the said Ann MALE from your said Parish of Barrington to the Parish of Curry Rivell aforesaid, and her deliver to the Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor, or some, or one of them there, together with this our Order, or a true Copy thereof.

AND you the Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor of the Parish of Curry Rivell aforesaid, are likewise hereby required, in his Majesty's name, to receive and provide for her the said Ann MALE as an Inhabitant of your said Parish of Curry Rivell until from thence she shall be discharged by due Course of Law.  Given under our Hands and Seals, the twenty sixth Day of December in the Second Year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord GEORGE the Forth, by the Grace of God, of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, King, Defender of the Faith, and in the Year of our Lord, one Thousand, eight Hundred and twenty one.

The examination of Ann MALE Singlewoman now residing in the parish of Barrington in the said county taken the 26th day of December 1821.

 

Who upon her oath saith that she is now about 23 yrs old & was born as she hath heard and believes in the parish of Barrington aforesaid and saith that about 6 years ago she & her father went to Hambridge? in the parish of Curry Rivell & her father then agreed that she shod? serve? Mr. James TAYLER? at six pence??? a week and after living with him two years her father then in the presence?? of this Examinant? agreed that she shod.? serve Mr TAYLER? a year at the wages of £3 and that she served accordingly to the? end? of? that year at Hambridge aforesaid and saith that she hath done no other act to her knowledge or belief whereby a Settlement can be gained and saith that she is now with child and that her said child is likely to be born a bastard.
