To the
Churchwardens, and others, the Overseers of the Poor of the Parish of Kingsbury Episcopi
in the County aforesaid to convey: And to the Churchwardens and Overseers
of the Poor of the Parish of Mere in
the county of Somerset to receive
and obey. These.
WHEREAS
Complaint has been made by you the Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor of
the Parish of Kingsbury Episcopi aforesaid, unto us, whose Hands and Seals are
hereunto set, two of his Majesty's Justices of the Peace, in and for the County
of Somerset aforesaid, (whereof one is of the Quorum,) that Thomas MALE labourer
hath lately intruded himself
into your said parish of Kingsbury Episcopi there to inhabit as a Parishioner, contrary to the Laws relating to the Settlement of
the Poor; and is become chargeable
to your said Parish of Kingsbury Episcopi
We therefore
upon due Examination and Enquiry made into the Premises aforesaid, and on the
Oath of the said Thomas MALE this
day taken before us in Writing, or otherwise, do find and adjudge the same to
be true: And we do also adjudge that the last place of the legal settlement of him the said Thomas MALE was and is the parish of Mere aforesaid.
THESE are
therefore in his Majesty's name, to order and require you the Churchwardens and
Overseers of the Poor of the Parish of Kingsbury
Episcopi aforesaid, that you, some, or one of
you, do forthwith remove and convey him
the said Thomas MALE from your said
Parish of Kingsbury Episcopi
to the Parish of Mere aforesaid, and
him deliver to the Churchwardens and
Overseers of the Poor, or some, or one of them there, together with this our
Order, or a true Copy thereof.
AND you the
Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor of the Parish of Mere aforesaid, are likewise hereby required, in his Majesty's
name, to receive and provide for him
the said Thomas MALE as an Inhabitant of your said Parish of Mere until from thence he shall be discharged by due Course of
Law. Given under our Hands and Seals,
the twenty sixth Day of March in the third Year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord GEORGE the Forth, by the Grace of God, of the
United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, King, Defender of the Faith,
and in the Year of our Lord, one Thousand, eight
Hundred and twenty three.

The examination Thomas MALE now of Kingsbury Episcopi Labourer taken this twenty sixth day of March 1823.
Who upon his oath saith that he is about twenty seven years of age & was born as he has heard and believes in Kingsbury Episcopi aforesaid that when he was about eighteen years of age he went to the parish of Mere in the said county and hired himself as a yearly servant at eight guinias a year where he continued to live abt a year and half, he then went to Kingsbury Episcopi and has there continued to live ever since and has done no other act to gain a settlement but is chargeable to Kingsbury aforesaid.
