The
examination of Samuel Edmonds of the parish of Isle Abbotts in the said County Labourer taken on oath this 30th day of
September 1807 Before us two of his Majestys Justices
of the Peace for the said County.
Who on his
oath saith that he is about fifty years of age, and
was born in parish of Isle Abbotts aforesaid as he hath heard and believes –
That when he was about nine or ten years of age his father agreed with Mr. Wm
LOWMAN of Isle Brewers that he should serve Mr. LOWMAN till he should arrive to
the age of eighteen years for meat drink clothes washing and lodging, that he
lived with Mr. LOWMAN under the agreement during the time agreed for. That he then left Mr. LOWMANs service and
went to live with Mr. Henry LOWMAN of the parish of Church Oakley in the County
of Hants – That he agreed to serve Mr. Henry LOWMAN
for a year at eight guineas a year meat drink and lodging. That he served out
the year and continued in his service altogether nearly four years. That he never after hired himself for a year
as a servant or lived in any service for a year. That about ten years
ago he married his late wife Jenny at Isle Brewers aforesaid by whom he had
three children born before marriage, at Isle Brewers aforesaid. That about ten
years ago he married his present wife Honor by whom he has two children one
born before marriage named Charles about 6 years old and the other born since marriage
named Thomas about three years old now residing with him at Isle Abbotts
aforesaid and chargeable to the sd parish. That he never rented any estate or did any
act to gain a settlement other than before stated.
