Sarah Payne’s husband, Simeon King, & her father, Joseph Ruggles Payne served in the Revolutionary War.
Sarah's daughter, Phebe King, married David Goodrich who grew up among the Shakers in Hancock MA.
Her cousin twice-removed, Moses Payne, Jr. married Abigail Adams who was a cousin once-removed of President John Adams.
Her great granduncle, William Veazie, was a Loyalist who left the Congregational faith of his forefathers to join the Episcopal Church. His son was an Episcopal Bishop and Vesey Street in Manhattan is named after him.
Her g-g-grandaunt, Elizabeth (Payne) Adams, was killed in her bed by ‘friendly fire’ during an Indian attack.
Her g-g-granduncle, John Bass, married Ruth Alden whose parents were Mayflower passengers.
Her g-g-granduncle Dr. Benjamin. Tompson has been called the earliest native-born American poet (one poem included).
Her 8th great-grandfather, John Payne of Frittenden, County Kent, England, (b. 1420), left real estate (farms) in his will which can be seen on the Frittenden area FarmMap. Frittenden is a very small village between Biddenden and Staplehurst (see VillageMap) which can be seen on the KentCountyMap. The early wills, translated from Latin, are included.
