Mr. Editor,

At five o'clock in the afternoon of November 10th, 1905, at his residence in Perryville, Mo., surrounded by his loving, weeping family and grief stricken relatives and friends, Augustus Doerr, in the seventy-first year of his age, departed this life, calmly, painful and in the possession of all his faculties to within a few minutes of his death, thus yielding another victory to death, the conquering hero of the human family.

Deceased's parents came to this country in the month of January 1835, settling in that part of the county now known as "Bomberhood", where the subject of this notice first saw the light of day on the 16th day of May of that year, thus making him at the time of death of the age of 70 yrs., 5 months and 24 days.

On the 28th day of April 1867, deceased was joined in wedlock to Mary E. Phillips, from which time to his death he resided in the family residence in East Perryville, surrounded by his family, happy and contented.

Deceased leaves to mourn his demise his grief-stricken widow, Mary E. Doerr; his sons Andrew E. Doerr of Perryville, and Edgar L. Doerr now of Winnipeg, Manitoba; his daughter Lillian A., wife of Dr. Vessells and Clara J., wife of Felix DeLassus; 3 brothers, William, John C., and Louis, six grandchildren and a host of warm and intimate friends.

Deceased, like any other youth in this ten western wilderness, could only attain the rudiments of an English education in the primitive log school house of those time, but he was ruggedly and firmly honest in all his dealings with men; fawning and flattery he despised in anyone, but was the friend of truth and fair dealings throughout his life.

The writer of this notice knew him long and intimately; for 46 years our relations were friendly, intimate, agreeable, and cordial. What he did, he did with his whole heart, might and strength. He knew no other way. Hypocrisy and deceit were to him unknown.

He has fought the good fight, he has finished the course and we who survive him must do honor to his memory. All that is mortal of him was consigned by loving hands to the old burying ground at St. Mary's Seminary, where he now sleeps awaiting the glorious resurrection mourn.

He died as he had lived, a faithful, consistent member of the Catholic church, without a stain upon his character; an ever affectionate husband, a kind and indulgent father, a faithful and true friend, a good citizen and an honest man.

Whatever may be said or thought of us when life's transient day is o'er, may it be our lot to leave behind a heritage of good name, the legacy of a life well spent, and to reach...

Where angry skies and blackening seas no more;
