John C. Doerr died at the home of Jas. T. Greenwell in this city, on Thursday, Nov. 9th, 1911,
after a short illness of pneumonia, aged 78 years.
Mr. Doerr was born in Prussia in the year 1833 and came to this country when two years old, with his parents, who settled on a farm half a mile east of Perryville.
When seventeen Mr. Doerr left the farm and took a clerkship in the general store of Rozier and Wilkinson, where he continued for ten years, then engaged in business for himself at St. Mary's. After a few years he came to Perryville and became a partner with Barney Cissell, and later with his
brother, Louis. He served several terms as collector of the county, and afterwards took a clerkship in the store of Wm. Furth, where he continued for a number of years.
In 1859, he was married to Mrs. Louise Mattingly, a daughter of Robert Greenwell, and to them was born a daughter, Mrs. Julia Halbrook, and a son, William J. Doerr, both of whom reside in St. Louis.
Besides these he is survived by his aged wife. For the past few years, although enjoying good health, he had retired from active work. The remains of the deceased were laid to rest in Mr. Hope cemetery Saturday afternoon, in the presence of a large number of neighbors, friends and relatives.
