John Wells and Brother [Levi Wells] to William Wells
24 January 1835Know all men by these presents that for and in consideration of the sum of Twelve hundred dollars cash in hand paid to us John Wells, Levi Wells and William Wells do grant, bargain, sell, transfer, convey unto our brother William Wells of the Parish of Livingston and State of Louisiana, he being present to accept this sale, sundries of Real Estate, it being the same property transferred by the said William Wells to the said John Wells, and said brothers with the reserve of the mortgage in favor of the Union Bank of Louisiana at Covington said property haveing [sic] been mortgaged to the said Union Bank of Louisiana by the said William Wells to secure the loan of Twelve hundred dollars from said Bank to Wit:
One tract of Land situated in the Parish of St. Helena on Scudy River containing five hundred and forty acres. Also another tract of Land situated on a Spring Creek in the Parish of St. Helena containing six hundred and forty acres and the following named slaves:Patsy, a girl aged about eleven years old,
Judy a girl aged about two years old,
Catherine a girl aged about nine years old,
Holy a girl aged about seven years old and a
C... a girl aged about three years old,To have and to hold the above described property to him the said Wm. Wells, his heirs and assigns and to them proper use and behoof [sic] forever.
In witness thereof we have severally signed our respective names in the presence of William P. Evans and George Richardson, witnesses who have signed with us this twenty fourth day of January, A. D eighteen hundred and thirty five.

Parish of LivingstonPersonally came and appeared before me, the undersigned parish Judge, Mr. George Richardson, one of the subscribing witnesses and after being duly sworn declared that he was present when the bill of sale was signed and that the parties acknowledged the cause to be their voluntary act for the uses and purposes therein specified.
