Mary ["Polly" Richardson] Palmer to William Akers
02 December 1833

Be it Known & Remembered that on this Second day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand Eight hundred and thirty three -- I, Mary Richardson, wife of Robert Palmer, being duly authorised and assisted by my said husband in this capacity to act, that in order to perfect a sale made by my husband Robert Palmer to William Akers on this second day of December in the year of our Lord Eighteen hundred and thirty three by Notarial act passed before Tho. Kennedy, Parish Judge of the Parish aforesaid, of a certain Negro man named Abram for the sum of Eight hundred Dollars, which said sum of Eight hundred dollars we, the said appearers do acknowledge to have received of Wm. Akers - in full pay for the said slave Abram -

And I the said Mary Richardson Wife of Robert Palmer do declare that I do by these presents Renounce all claim right Priviledge and Mortgage which I may or might have had at the time of the said sale from R. Palmer my husband to William Akers in favour of the said Purchaser and I the said Mary Richardson, wife as aforesaid, do acknowledge that I am fully acquainted with the privileges and Mortgages granted by Law to married women on the property of their husbands for the restitution of their property whether of Dotal, Paraphernal, or otherwise - and yet notwithstanding, I do persist in my determination to ratify the sale made by my husband to William Akers, hereby renouncing all claims, mortagages and privileges which I have on the above described slave Abram unto him the said William Akers his heirs and assigns forever.

This done and passed this day and date aforesaid in presence of E. T. Murray and Alfred Richardson witnesses who have signed this act with me and my said husband.

Before Thos. Kennedy, Parish Judge on this fifth day of December A.D. Eighteen hundred and thirty three, personally came E. T. Murray one of the subscribing witnesses to the foregoing Renunciation and after being duly sworn declared that he was present when the parties signed this renunciation and that he seen [sic] the parties sign their names and acknowledge the same to be their voluntary act for the use and purposes therein specified.

Sworn to and subscribed before me this 5th day of December A.D. 1833.
