Act of Partition Between the
Heirs of Samuel Richardson and Rachel Hamilton
12 April 1844

Be it Known & Remembered that on this the Twelfth day of April in the year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred and forty Four, and in the year of the independence of the United States of America the sixty eighth

Before me Jacob J. Watts, Judge of said Parish of Livingston in the State of Louisiana and duly authorised [sic] by law to exercise the powers of Notary Public therein,

Personally came and appeared Augustin Richardson, Elizabeth Richardson, wife of Thomas McCabe; Mary Richardson, wife of Robert Palmer; Margaret Richardson, wife of William Akers; Rebecca Richardson, wife of William Durbin; Martha Richardson, wife of John McCarrol; and Samuel Richardson, Jr.; Legal heirs of Rachel Hamilton, their mother & Samuel Richardson, their father, both now deceased, who did declare and say that, as heirs of theri [sic] said deceased parents they had mutually proceeded to a partition of the property belonging to the said Estate, all the heirs being of full age of majority; herein named and proceeded in the partition as follows:

Elizabeth Richardson, wife of Thomas McCabe, recieved [sic] a negro man named Luke, aged thirty years, valued at Five hundred and seventy five Dollars;

Margaret Richardson, wife of William Akers, recieved [sic] Mathew, a negro man aged Twenty five years, valued at Five hundred and Seventy-five dollars, & Bill, a negro man aged Twenty five years, valued at Five hundred & fifty dollars.

Rebecca Richardson, wife of William Durbin, recieved [sic] Six hundred and forty acres of land & Improvements, being the late residence of the said deceased, valued at Twelve hundred Dollars.

Mary Palmer, wife of Robert Palmer, recieved [sic] Frank, a Negro man about thirty years, valued at Five hundred and fifty dollars, & Ann, a negro girl aged seven years, valued at Two hundred Dollars.

Martha Richardson, wife of John McCarrol, recieved [sic] one Negro boy, Albert aged about Twenty five years, valued at six hundred Dollars, & Mariah, a girl aged Five years, valued at Two hundred Dollars.

Samuel Richardson and Augustus Richardson; recieving [sic] a negro woman named Sarah aged Twenty five, valued at Four hundred dollars & her three children, Jane aged Four years, valued at Two hundred dollars; Hanna aged Two years, valued at Two hundred Dollars; & Henry aged nine months, valued at one hundred Dollars;

And the aforesaid heirs hereby mutually pledge themselves the one to the other, that they and each of them, will all times hold good and valid this act of Partition, and that neither they nor their heirs or any other person in their names shall seek to oppose or impair the force of this Act; Guarantying [sic] one to the other a full and valid tithe to the slaves and land to each heir the property herein recieved [sic]; and that act shall never be impaired; & what the aforesaid heirs will forever hold in good faith, before named bind themselves, their heirs and assigns at all times to acknowledge the full and complete title to each other of the said before described property as specified as having been recieved [sic] and herein before set forth & that they never will attempt to impair the title herein conveyed; and that each of the said appearers acknowledge the title complete in each other & free from any and all encumbrance, whatsoever, so far as they are respectively concerned.

Thus done and passed in the Parish of Livingston on this the day month & year first above written in the presence of Theodore Gillespie & E. Hunt, competent witnesses who have hereto signed their names together with said appearers & me, said Judge.

Before closing & signing this Act of Partition, Augustus Richardson acknowledged that as heir aforesaid, he had recieved a negro man named Jim, valued Four hundred and fifty Dollars, & Samuel Richardson Jr. acknowledged that as heir aforesaid, he had recieved [sic] a negro boy named Jerry, aged about nine years, valued at three hundred Dollars.
