In 1856 Joel Alonzo settled in the city of La Crosse, La Crosse County, WI where he engaged in the lumber business. In 1857 he moved to Jackson County. While residing in Jackson County he engaged in the lumber business in Warrens (Monroe County) until 1878. In 1878 when he moved to his farm in Fox Lake, Dodge County, Wisconsin. Joel and Martha Gleason are buried in the Fox Lake Cemetery.
