Marriages:  The Acadian Recorder reports these in a limited manner, but they originate throughout the Province.  Often the dates found in this section and the Deaths section contain two references of inst. (or instant) and ult. (or ultimo).  These refer to the month in which the date occured. Inst. or instant means the date is in the current month. Ult. or ultimo means the date given is in the previous month.

Deaths:  Again these originate throughout the Province, and sometimes are International.

Ship News:  The news typically lists ship arrivals and departures, usually by giving ship name, master, and home port or last port sailed from.  Sometimes there are also passengers lists, information of wrecks etc which are reported under this section as well. If you see the symbol  "&.c" in the texts,  this was the old form of "etc".

Estate Notices:  These were advertisements placed when someone died announcing that claims against and owed to the estate had to be settled within a certain time period.  This section is a compliment to the Deaths section as an additional source. This section will be done once every few months. Since they often ran the same ad for 2 years, the list usually stays the same for a long period of time.  Sources here are not only the name of the deceased, but also those who administered the estate, usually other family members.  The complete text is not done.  This is just a list containing estate owner, administrator(s) and the date the original notice was placed (if available).

Advertisers:  Again this section is a list of names, with type of business and location if available.  Real estate sales will also
appear in this section, whether private or public/sherrif auction.  This section and the next are not being included yet, but will be eventually added in.

SHIP NEWS - Port of Halifax

Sunday November 23 arr.:  brig George, [ ____ ] 16 days from Quebec;  schrs Rhoda, O'Brien - Quebec; Sally-Ann, Hawbolt - Miramichie;  Prudence, Findlay - N.Y. 9 days;  Sisters, Allen - Burin with 46 passengers.

Tuesday November 25 arr.:  brig Eagle, Dean - Salt [ ____ ] 22 days cargo salt;  sch. Robin - St. Andrews 9 days.

Wednesday November 26 arr.:  sch. William, Rundle - Baltimore 12 days.

Thursday November 27 arr.:  sch. Elizabeth, Walker - St. Johns N.F. 21 days with 28 passengers;  brig William & Amelia, Jones from N.B. for Plymouth Eng. in distress having lost her rudder;  sloop Fame, Collins - Liverpool N.S. cargo rum and molasses to Messrs Fillia & Perkins.

Vessels cleared since our last:  brig Louisa, Bobby - West Indies;  schrs. Robert, Anderson - Philadelphia;  Four Sons, Kelly - Boston;  Susan, Wilton - Moose Island;  Robert, Glawson - Bermuda;  Diligent, Crisp - Philadelphia.

The brig William Campbell, Latto from Jamaica for Pictou belonging to Edward Mortimer Esq. was cast away about 20 days since near Prince Edward Island.

A heavy gale was felt at Barbadoes about the 21st ult. A hurricane was also experienced at Gaudaloupe and Martinique about the same time which done considerable damage to the shipping.

The British packet Swiftsure would sail from New York for England the first fair windd after the 13th inst.

St. Johns N.F. vessels arrived.  Oct. 16 - brig Apollo, Colnet from Boston;  20th Express, Copley - Boston;  schrs Nancy, Warner - Halifax;  Elizabeth, Walker - Halifax;  Rover, Dow - Halifax;  Camilla, Myhill - Quebec;  Oct. 21 - Vigilant, White - Prince Edward Island; Nancy, M'Donald - ditto;  Betsey, Dalton - Quebec;  Morning Star, Livingston - Dorchester N.S.;  The brig Waterloo from hence had also arrived there.

Arrived at Baltimore. Nov. 10 - ship Fame [from] Guernsey with passengers;  sch. Thomas Jeffery, Pride - Halifax 30 passengers;  sch. Lucretia, Kimbell - St. Andrews with plaster.
[At] Alexandria Nov. 10 - schrs Fame, Whitney - Barbadoes;  Sector, Kerr - Trinidad.
[At] Boston Nov. 10 - brig Rover, Jones - Demerara.
