The Acadian Recorder
April 11, 1818
Marriages: The Acadian Recorder reports these in a limited manner, but they originate throughout the Province. Often the dates found in this section and the Deaths section contain two references of inst. (or instant) and ult. (or ultimo). These refer to the month in which the date occured. Inst. or instant means the date is in the current month. Ult. or ultimo means the date given is in the previous month.
Deaths: Again these originate throughout the Province, and sometimes are International.
Ship News: The news typically lists ship arrivals and departures, usually by giving ship name, master, and home port or last port sailed from. Sometimes there are also passengers lists, information of wrecks etc which are reported under this section as well. If you see the symbol "&.c" in the texts, this was the old form of "etc".
Estate Notices: These were advertisements placed when someone died announcing that claims against and owed to the estate had to be settled within a certain time period. This section is a compliment to the Deaths section as an additional source. This section will be done once every few months. Since they often ran the same ad for 2 years, the list usually stays the same for a long period of time. Sources here are not only the name of the deceased, but also those who administered the estate, usually other family members. The complete text is not done. This is just a list containing estate owner, administrator(s) and the date the original notice was placed (if available).
Advertisers: Again this section is
a list of names, with type of business and location if available.
Real estate sales will also
appear in this section, whether private or public/sherrif auction.

Snips and Clips: Interesting odds and ends.
- In London Jan. 5, C.C. Johnson Esq., Captain in the 85th Regt., third son of Sir H.J. Johnson of Montreal to Susan eldest daughter of Rear-Admiral Griffith.
- On Tuesday evening by the Rt. Rev. Dr. Burke, Mr. Robert Phelan to Miss Margaret Leigh of Liverpool, England.
- Same evening Mr. Richard Haberlin to Mary Conley.
- On the 31st ult., Mr. John Brown, Royal Artillery to Miss Mary M'Kinnon.
- Monday morning, Mrs. Ann Robb in the 20th year of her age.
- Yesterday morning in the 72d year of her age, Susannah, relict of the late Hon. John Haliburton of this town. Her decay was gradual and she closed a life of amiable piety in faith and hope and peace, enjoying the object of her earnest prayer that she might not be suffered at her last hour from any pains of death of fail from frm that Saviour in whom she had believed and trusted. Her funeral will take place on Tuesday next, at one o'clock when the friends and acquaintance of the family are respectfully requested to attend.
- Lately at Trinidad, Capt. William Millett of the brig Maria of this port aged 32 years - a young man very generally respected in this town.
- [F.A.S.] Coroner's Inquest - A coroners inquest was held yesterday on the body of Thomas Hunt, block-maker of this town, found on the highway near Birch Cove, in state of perfect nudity. He left the house of Mrs. Donaldson about 8 or 9 o'clock on Thursday evening and was supposed to be on his way home. It remains entirely a mystery how he became dispossessed of his cloths [sic] as no marks of violence appeared to warrant a suspicion that he had come to his death by ill-treatment. The deceased was occassionly given to intoxication, which brought on him at times a state of mental derangement, which circumstance, coupled with the inclemency of the weather appeared the probable cause of his death. Verdict . . . "Died by the Visitation of God".

The Concord, Carver from hence arrived at Boston March 20.
The Aurora from hence has arrived at Limerick.
The Protector from New Brunswick was driven on shore in Greenock Harbour on the 15th Jan. in a gale. The Perserverance from Pictou arrived at Aberdeen Jan. 11 after having been on shore near that port and 5 seaman and two passengers drowned. The following is a list of the unfortunate sufferers: James Grant, mate; Robert Duncan; Alex. Wilkie; John Robertson, and William Symers, seamen; Mr. William Compton and Mrs. Compton, passengers from the Gut of Canso.
