Speculation
The Civil War Soldiers and Sailors System also shows a Private William R.
Sentell in Company F of the 2nd North Carolina Mounted Infantry for the Union Army.
Given the animosity between William's father, "Grandsire Dick", and the sons
serving for the Confederacy, could William Richard Sentelle have deserted the Confederate
side and then joined the Union side? We have no other William R. Sentelle in our
files which fits the Civil War timeline. Dates and information needs to be
researched further...
