This Perkins family descends from Edward Perkins and his wife Elizabeth Butcher of New Haven, CT. There is no clear evidence of his ancestry. It has generally been accepted that he is from the Hilmorton, Warwickshire, Perkins family. However, Y DNA research, Parkins and Perkins Y DNA study, has shown that his descendants do not match those of Jacob Perkins or Abraham Perkins, from the Hillmorton Perkins family. Paula Perkins Mortensen has recently published a line making him a son of William Perkins, a Merchant Taylor of London. Donald Lines Jacobus descended from Edward and Elizabeth. He also wrote about the family in _The New Haven Genealogical Magazine_ (now _The American Genealogist_) and the _Connecticut Magazine_, as well as prepared a small pamphlet on them.

By 1776, Timothy Perkins and his brother Joseph, had married Mariam amd Lois Sperry, and moved to Rowan Co., North Carolina and then to Ashe Co., with their wives' brother William Sperry. They were left one shilling each in Abel Sperry's will. Timothy and Joseph appear to have served in several Loyalist regiments stationed in South Carolina during the Revolutionary War. While there is evidence that Timothy died by or in 1783, Dow Perkins stated that he moved to Grayson Co., VA and lived there into the early 1800s. This writer knows of no documentation ot support that statement.

Timothy and Mariam's son, Jabez Perkins, moved to Grayson Co., VA and then to Whitley Co., KY. In his 60's he moved to Bureau/Putnam Co., IL, before returning to Whitley Co., KY, and dying in 1836. The name of Jabez's wife is a source of contention and speculation, but it is believed by this writer, that he was married at least twice. The last time being in Dec 1836, on the day he made his will, to Nancy White. See the separate web page on Jabez Perkins for details.

William Peck, (#76) and his wife Elizabeth ?????, are ancestors of former First Lady Barbara Pierce Bush, and through her of George Walker Bush, President of the United States, and former Governor of Texas, as well as his brother, Jeb Bush, Governor of Florida. Most genealogists consider William Peck and Henry Peck (#82) of New Haven to have been brothers. This makes the descendants of these two men, either ancestors or cousins of George W. Bush and Jeb Bush. See, Gary Boyd Roberts, _Ancestry of American Presidents_, 1996 edition.

The Hotchkiss family may be related to the Barons Cotton in England. John Insley Coddinton wrote an article about them for the _Connecticut Nutmegger_. This writer's attempts to follow his hints to the Cottons by inspecting the COddingtom MSS collection at NEHGS, have led to two different lines, one is very probable, and may lead to a royal descent through the Constantine family of Whitchurch, Shropshire. The other Cotton line was thought by Coddington to lack a generation. If the second Cotton line can be proven, it will give a royal descent through the Mainwaring family.

Recently, the marriage place of Mathew Moulthrop, and the identification of his wife as Jane Nicholl, has been written about by Patricia Law Hatcher, "Research and Red Herrings: The Wives of William Luddington and Matthew Moulthrop of New Haven, Connecticut with their English Origins", _The American Genealogist_, vol. 74, no.2, pages 81-96, April 1999.

The rest of this ancestry is based in Norfolk Co., Virginia. The Creekmores and other families moved south from Norfolk, Virginia, to North Carolina before moving into Tennessee and Kentucky. Edmund Creekmon was a shipwright in colonial Norfolk Co., VA. He may be a son of George Creekmore and Margaret Rook of Norwich, Norfolkshire, England. Further research is needed to verify that theory. See, the Creekmore, Crickmer and Crickmay Y DNA study site.

The Bachelor family of Norfolk Co., VA, and Nash Co., NC, may be descended from Rev. Stephen Bachilor of New England and Virginia. Further research is needed to confirm this theory.
