The Swain family is one of my dead ends. I believe that Jesse Swain may be the son of John Swain and Isabella, but I have no real proof. A problem here is that family legend says that Swain is not the real name of the family. Looking at early census materials shows various Swain, Swaim, Swan, McSwain, De Swain, and DeSpain, Spain, families in the Knox/Whitley Co. area of KY and the adjoining areas of Tennessee. I have been unable to tie these families to Jesse D/M Swain. The D/M comes from a letter from his grandson to the National Archives.

The Kidd family came from Shoham, Cambridge, England, to Virginia in the 1600s.

Benois Brasseur (now usually Brashear) was a Justice of the Peace in Maryland. He was granted Letters of Denization by Lord Baltimore after he moved from Lower Norfolk Co., VA, to "The Cliffs" in Calvert Co., MD. Benois Brasseur, also known as Benjamin Brasier, from France, Nancimond and Lower Norfolk Co.s, VA, and "The Cliffs", Calvert Co., Maryland, and his wife, Mary (Richeford?), are ancestors of the late Harry S. Truman, President of the United States of America, and of Richard Cheney, Vice-President of the United States of America, through their daughter, Susanna Brasseur, who married Mareen Duvall. They are also ancestors of the actor, Robert Duval. His home, originally built by Richard Bennett, the former Royal Governor of both VA and MD, was in existance as late as 1960.

The Stephens family is also a puzzle. This family may go back to the early 1600s in VA, although I have some real doubts about the line from South Carolina back to Virginia. The family is also supposed to be part Cherokee. The family always lives in the area of Cherokee lands in SC, KY and TN as is shown by plotting their residences against the Cherokee nation maps at the University of South Carolina. All of the children of Zorababel Stephens filed claims with the Dawes Commission. All of those claims were denied. I am trying to get copies of all the claims and denials.

Rosa Genetta Swain and her husband, George Matt Ball were cousins. See his line as linked above for their shared lines.
