                           363.  Jonathan Fisher (1849-1904)

 

            Jonathan Fisher (son of Moses, David, John Adam, John Jacob, Sebastian) was born in Penn Town­ship, Union (now Snyder) County, Pa. on December 5, 1849. Until the age of 20 he assisted on his father's farm and attended school. In 1869 he went to Newberry, Pa. and secured employment on the Dodge Sawmill, and later was an employee of the Munson Mill there. He then entered the draying business and remained in it until his death, which occurred on September 10, 1904. He was a devout member of the Evangelical Church and served as a class leader, steward, and trustee for many years. He married Lavina Dunkelberger of Reading, Pa., who was born on July 7, 1847 and died at Newberry, Pa. on February 23, 1916. Both are buried at Newberry.

                            365.  Abia Fisher, Wife of ________ Binger.

 

            Abia Fisher (daughter of Moses, David, John Adam, John Jacob, Sebastian) was born  in Penn Township, Snyder County, Pa. on __________.  Her mother was Annie Esterline. On July 22, 1866 she mar­ried her second cousin and neighbor, Henry W. Fisher, son of John, who was born in the same township and county on November 30 1842, and is still living with his son J. Absalon Fisher at 842 Bluff Street, Deloit, Wis. Henry and three of his brothers were soldiers in the Civil War. Ellen's father and uncle also served in the Union Army. Henry and Ellen came to the Fisher Reunion for a number of years when it was first held, but due to old age they finally held a Fisher reunion in Elkhart, Ind. They were devout members of the United Brethren Church, and Henry often served as a lay preacher in Elkhard and surrounding sections. The writer well remembers how this family took him into their home, when he went to Elkhart, Ind., to live in the fall of ;1904. They did much to keep him from homesickness, in his first stay away from his old home in Pennsylvania.

                            367.  Catherine Fisher, Wife of William Gumby (Gamby ?)

 

            Catherine Fisher (daughter of Moses, David, John Adam, John Jacob, Sebastian) was born in Penn Township, Snyder County, Pa.,  on __________, and died in the same township, not far from her birth­place, on __________.  Her mother was Annie Esterline. Catherine married William Gumby, and lived on the banks of the Middle Creek, just below the present St. Paul's Lutheran Church, at the Middle Creek Hydro Electric Plant. William was a farmer. After the death of Catherine, he married Harriet Moyer, and during the latter years of his life lived near Hall's Lutheran Church, in Chapman Township of Snyder County, where he died on __________

                            368.  Ammon Fisher

 

            Ammon Fisher (youngest son of Moses, David, John Adam, John Jacob, Sebastian) was born in Penn Township, Snyder County, Pa., on the old Moses Fisher homestead in "Smoketown" in 1866. His mother, Annie Esterline, died when he was ten years old. He assisted his father on the farm and on April 27, 1886, he married Frances Burns, daughter of Lot Burns. Francis was born in Union Township, Snyder County, Pa on __________and died in Selinsgrove on__________. After marriage Ammon operated his fa­ther's farm, and before long became the owner. Here he continued in agricultural pursuits, truck farming and huckstering until about 1915, when he sold the farm to his son-in-law, George Schrey, and moved to Selinsgrove, where he still resides on the Isle of Que. He is a tall slender hardworking man, a regular atten­dant of the Lutheran Church, and a member of the Republican party. At this writing (January 1935) he is still engaged in buying up produce and disposing of same on the Sunbury marker.

                            396.  Edmund G. Fisher ( 1839 - 1918 )

 

            Edmund G. Fisher (son of George Fisher, Christian, Christian, John Jacob, Sebastian) was born in __________ Township, berks County, Pa. His mother was __________ Zimmerman. Edmund was born in 1839 and died in 1918. His wife was Mary Reed, who was born in 1850 and died in 1898. Both are buried in the cemetery of the Tulpehocken Lutheran Church near Stouchsburg, Pa. Edmund was the sixth genera­tion from one of the donors of the land for this church, Sebastian Fisher, who gave five acres. Edmund served in the Civil War. He was interested in the Fisher Reunion at Selinsgrove, and occasionally attended it. For some years he was a member of the executive committee. Edmund's grandson, Landis, son of Samuel, accompanied him on the last meeting he attended, which was about 1916 or 1917. The latter years of his life he spent with his daughter, Mrs. Harry Himelberger, in Pottstown, Pa.

                            400.  Theodore W. Fisher   ( 1855 -    ?    )

 

            Theodore W. Fisher (son  of Joseph, John, Christian, John Adam, John Jacob, Sebastian) was born near Lewisburg, Union County, Pa., on November 9, ;1855. His mother was Mary McCullough. He attended the rural schools in his section, New Bloomfield Academy, and Freeburg Academy, and taught in the rural schools for three full terms, and completed two terms for others. He then learned the flour and grain milling business and operated mills in various sections. On February 23, 1882, he married Ellen Row of Penn Township, Snyder County, and the issue of this marriage was two children, Annie and John.  Ellen died on April 23, 1891. On September 9, 1892, he married Ella Boyer of Washington Township, Snyder County, who was born on July 17, 1869, and is still living. Theodore ;is a member of the Lutheran Church and the Democratic party. He is a regular attendant at the Fisher reunion, and has been a member of the executive committee. He and his wife live with their son William Guy Fisher, at RFD, Watsontown, Pa.

            Dr. John Fisher (son of Joseph, John, Christian, John Adam, John Jacob, Sebastian) was born near Lewisburg, Union County, Pa., on February 14, 1853. He was the elder of the two sons of Joseph and his wife, Mary McCullough. He attended the rural schools and Freeburg Academy and served as a rural school teacher for a number of years. In 1881 he entered the Medical Department of the University of Pennsylva­nia graduating with the M.D. degree in 1885. He entered his profession at Middleburg, Snyder County, Pa., practicing there until the spring of 1887 when he moved to Philadelphia, Pa., where he contin­ued in practice until his death on February 13, 1931. On May 2, 1876, he married Mary Batdorf of Williamstown, Dauphin Co., Pa.

Her father was Nathaniel Yoder. She married Joel Baker, who was born on April 2, 1845 and died on Novem­ber 25, 1918. They lived in the wellknown White Deer Valley of Union County.

                            403.  Emma J. Yoder, Wife of Rev. Emanuel D. Keen

 

            Emma J. Yoder (daughter of Mary Fisher, John, Christian, John Adam, John Jacob, Sebastian) was born at New Berlin, Union County, Pa., on July 12, 1852, and died at Naperville, Illinois, in 1934. Her father was Nathaniel Yoder, and she was the second child. She attended the public schools and Union Seminary in her home town, and became a member of the Lutheran Church there. On March 8, 1883, she married Rev. Emanuel D. Keen, a member of the Evangelical Church. After her marriage she became a member of her husband's church. Emanuel Deininger Keen was born at Millheim, Centre Country, Pa., on July 26, 1849, and died at Wrightsville, York County, Pa., on February 2, 1917. ;In early life he attended the local schools and learned the carpenter trade. Later, he attended Union Seminary at New Berlin, Pa., in prepara­tion for the ministry of the Evangelical Church. He served parishes at Middleburg, Thompsontown, Liverpool, Yorkana, Loganville, Red Lion, Nescopeck, East Prospect, North Berwick, York, Lemoyne, and Wrightsville, in Pennsylvania. He was a diligent worker in the service of the Lord. At Yorkana and Nescopeck he was instrumental in building parsonages, and at York and Red Lion, new church edifices. At the time of his death, he was supervising the erection of a parsonage at Wrightsville.

                            404.  Annie Yoder, Wife of J Newton Chambers

 

            Annie Yoder (daughter of Mary Fisher, John, Christian, John Adam, John Jacob, Sebastian,) was born at or near Richfield, Uniata County, Pa., on January 5, 1854. Her father was Nathaniel Yoder. On Decem­ber 16, 1873, she married J. Newton Chambers, a merchant,  of Mifflinburg, Pa., where they lived all of their married life. Mr. Chambers was an elder of the Presbyterian Church. He died some years ago, and Mrs. Chambers lives with one of her sons in Mifflinburg. She has done much to assist the writer  in matters of information concerning her branch of the family.

            Charles F. Yoder (son of Mary Fisher, John, Christian, John Adam, John Jacob, Sebastian) was born on July 4, 1856, at Richfield, Juniata County, Pa., and died in Union County, Pa., near Watsontown on April 28, 1926. He is buried at Alvira in Union County. He was a farmer and lived the greater part of his life in Union County. His father was Nathaniel Yoder. Charles and his family were members of the Lutheran Church. In 1889 he married Emma J. Leitner, who was born on May 23, 1862, and is still living at RFD One, Watsontown, Pa. She is the mother of a large family and was an excellent helpmate of her industrious hus­band. She was of great assistance to the writer in collecting the information given in this history and geneal­ogy.

                            406.  Charles Kantner Fisher   ( 1853 - 1925 )

 

            Charles K. Fisher (son of Isaac, John, Christian, John Adam, John Jacob, Sebastian) was born at Selinsgrove, Snyder County, Pa., on February 21, 1853. His mother was Lovina Kantner, and Charles was her elder of her two sons. Charles died at Williamsport, Pa., on March 24, 1925. He was educated in the Selinsgrove public schools, and at an early age became a partner with his father in the retail boot and shoe business. On July 29, 1877, he married Emma Clara Kreeger, daughter of A. Kreeger. Emma was born near Middleburg, Snyder County, Pa., on March 26, 1856, and died at Williamsport, Pa., on January 30, 1914.  In 1880 Charles moved his family to Williamsport by canalboat. He secured employment with the Williamsport Furniture Co. and became foreman of the stock room. About 1887 he entered the tinning and heating busi­ness and handled many large contracts during his life. He was a staunch member of the Methodist faith and at the time of his death was President of the Board of Trustees of the High Street Methodist Church. HE was a past grand of the Odd Fellows and a member of the Royal Arcanum.

Fisher (son of Isaac, John, Christian, John Adam, John Jacob, Sebastian) was born in Selinsgrove, Snyder County, Pa., on December 21, 1857, and died at Williamsport, Pa., on June 7, 1907. He spent his early days in Selinsgrove and attended the schools there. His mother was Lovina Kantner. His father owned and operated a shoe store and held various public offices, including that of school director. In 1879 he enlisted in the United States Army and rose to the rank of Sergeant in Company H, 15th In­fantry. Prior to this he had worded on some of the western railroads then under construction. While in the army, details under his command twice escorted Colonel Robert Ingersoll across the plains, Col. Ingersoll being in government service at the time. On return from the army he located at Williamsport, first as an em­ployee of the Williamsport Furniture Company, and later in the car repair shop of the Pennsylvania Rail­road at that place. On September 4, 1883, he married Sadie E. Berry, who was born on July  10, 1862, at Hughesville, Lycoming County, Pa. At the present time Sadie lives at 914 Cherry Street in Williamsport, Pa. Rufus was a member of the Methodist Church and held membership in the Maccabbee Lodge. He is buried at Williamsport.

            Luther Motz Weaver (son of Catherine Motz, daughter of Elizabeth Fisher, Christian, John Adam, John Jacob, Sebastian) was born at  _______________, _______________ County, Pa., on May 20, 1862. His father was the Rev. George Peter Weaver, M.D. Luther and his brother, William Warren, attended local schools and entered Wittenberg College, Springfield, Ohio. Two years later they transferred to Pennsyl­va­nia College at Gettysburg, Pa., where they graduated in 1882, with the A.B. degree. Luther taught at New Oxford, New Baltimore, and Hanover, Pa., High Schools. He entered the Dental School of the University of Pennsylvania, graduating with the degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery in 1888, and established himself in practice on Woodland Avenue in West Philadelphia. Their residence for thirty years was at 7103 Woodland Avenue, but their present residence is on the Baltimore Pike, Springfield Township, Delaware County, Pa., RFD3, Media Pa. Dr. Weaver is still practicing his profession [c.1935]. On March 30, 1891, Dr. Weaver married Gertrude Susan Fisher, who was born in Hanover, York County, Pa., on Feb. 18, 1863, and died in or near Philadelphia on December 17, 1928. She was the youngest of the ten children of Michael Fisher, a cabinet maker of Hanover. Michael's family came to York County from Baltimore, where his father, Adam, had lived for some years. Adam's father, a German baron, came to Philadelphia and settled along the banks of the Schuylkill River. Mrs. Weaver was Past Matron of the Hamilton Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. The Weavers were affiliated with the Lutheran Church. They had nine children, eight of them graduated from Susquehanna University, the alma mater of their grandfather.

            W. Warren Weaver (son of Catherine Motz, daughter of Elizabeth Fisher, Christian, John Adam, John Jacob, Sebastian) was born at  Annville, Lebanon County, Pa., on April 24, 1864, and died on Feb. 33, 1929. His father was the Rev. George Peter Weaver, M.D., a missionary and physician. Warren and his brother Luther attended Wittenberg College for two years, and then transferred to Pennsylvania College, Gettysburg, Pa., where he graduated with the A.B. degree in 1882. He then entered the University of Pennsylvania Medical School, graduating with the M.D. degree in 1886. He practiced medicine in Philadelphia from the time of his graduation until his death in 1929. He was a surgeon for the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad Company for 35 years, as well as of a number of other industrial concerns. Dr. Weaver was a member of the old Philadelphia Common Council for twelve years, and president of the 40th Ward Republican Club for 25 years. He was a city police surgeon in Philadelphia for a number of years. He was a member of the Philadelphia County Medical Society, the Red Men, a past master of Hamilton Lodge # 274, Free and Accepted Masons, and a past officer of the Order of the Eastern Star[RTU2] . He married Sue Donaldson Leech, Sr., of a wellknown pioneer Philadelphia family. She was a past officer of the Eastern Star and a past Ranger of the Foresters of America. Dr. Weaver first lived on Woodland Avenue at 61st Street, later moving to a country estate at Aldan, Delaware County, Pa., and later to "Breezy Bluff" at Worden, Mary­land. While attending the funeral of his father-in-law, he took a cold and that night medicated himself. At 2 a.m. his wife heard some queer noises and discovered that he was extremely ill. He died before medical help could arrive.

Her father was Dr. Charles E. Gutelius a wellknown Mifflinburg dentist. In 1898 she went to Denver, Colorado, where she met and married Robert James Baker on Nov. 16, 1898. Robert was born on May 25, 1874, and is engaged in the real estate investment business in Denver. Their address is 565 Gilpin Street, Denver, Colorado.

            Flora Neff (daughter of Sarah Motz, daughter of Elizabeth Fisher, Christian, John Adam, John Jacob, Sebastian) was born at Aaronsburg, Centre County, Pa., on Feb. 2, 1855, and died at Centre Hall, Pa., on August 15, 1929. On July 14, 1896, she married Sidney W. Bairfoot, who was born on August 8, 1854, and died of tuberculosis on Oct. 26, 1888. For a time he conducted a book and stationery store in Bellefonte, but having been raised on a dairy farm they moved to Centre Hall and engaged in that business. They had no children, but William J. Smith was their errand boy on the farm, and after the death of Sidney, continued to operate the farm until his sudden death on April 20, 1925. In the meantime the widow Bairfoot adopted him as her son. His tombstone reads "William J. Smith, adopted son of Flora Bairfoot, Nov. 24, 1872 - Apr 20, 1925." Flora and her husband are buried at Centre Hall Too. After the death of William Smith, his brother Thomas Smith, took care of Mrs. Bairfoot and her property until her death in 1929.

            John F. Moyer (son of Henry Moyer, son of Margaret Fisher, Christian, John Adam, John Jacob, Sebastian) was born in Penn Township, Snyder County, Pa., on Aug. 3, 1860. His mother was Mary Dagle, a native of Germany. John was the oldest child and was born on the old Moyer farm west of the village of Salem. He attended the local schools of his district, and for two years was a student at Missionary Institute, now Susquehanna University, at Selinsgrove, Pa. He became a member of the Lutheran at Salem on Dec. 8, 1877. On Dec 28, 1882, he married S. Elizabeth Herman, his second cousin, and soon thereafter they moved to a farm near Port Royal in Juniata County, Pa. In the spring of 1902 they moved to Ward County, North Dakota, and the next year he was elected Treasurer of a six township school district. He was again a member of the school board from 1908 to 1911, and served as a director of a grain elevator company at Des Lacs, N.D., for eight years. John owns 640 acres of good land near Burlington, N.D., but retired from active farm work some years ago. Mr Moyer was of great assistance to the writer in collecting and transmitting data for this history and genealogy. S. Elizabeth Herman, wife of John F. Moyer, was born in Selinsgrove, Snyder County, Pa., on Jan. 10, 1863. Her parents were Hannah E. Fisher and George Herman. She attended the public schools in Selinsgrove, and became a member of the First Lutheran Church there on Jan. 3, 1880. The Moyers recently celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. They present address is Burlington, North Dakota.

            David William Moyer (son of Henry Moyer, son of Margaret Fisher, Christian, John Adam, John Jacob, Sebastian) was born in Penn township, Snyder County, Pa., on Mar. 10, 1862. His mother was Mary Dagle, and he was her second child. David attended the local public schools and Missionary Institute, now Susquehanna University, at Selinsgrove, the State Normal School at Lock Have, and the Iron City Business College at Pittsburg, Pa. For several years he was employed as a book-keeper in a Wilkes Barre office. In 1885 he returned to his father's farm and became interested in fruit growing and general farming. On May 21, 1891, he married Katherine V. Kessler, daughter of Samuel C. Kessler, of his home community. She was born on September 8, 1869, near Salem, and died in Selinsgrove, Pa. On October 29, 1925. She was a true helpmate and excel­lent mother. In 1892 when North Dakota was thrown open to Settlement, he went to that state and filed on some land near Williston, but in the fall of the same year, returned to the old Moyer farm, west of Salem, Pennsylvania, continuing there until the spring of 1919, when he sold his farm equipment and moved to Selinsgrove. Here he built a number of houses in the western section of the town. David held a number of public offices and is a member of the Republican Party. He is a staunch adherent to the Lutheran faith. The writer is indebted to him for collecting most of the information on the Moyers, contained herein. David resides on Snyder Street, Selinsgrove, Pa.

He attended the local schools and from 1881 to 1883 was a student at the Missionary Institute, now Susquehanna University, at Selinsgrove, Pa. On Aug. 11, 1885, he married Sarah E. Yoder, who was born on Mar. 15, 1867, and died on Apr. 6, 1921. After marriage he was a tenant farmer for a year and then became a merchant, which he followed for six years. He then entered the Medico-Chirurgical College, at Philadelphia, Pa., to prepare for the medical profession, but not liking this he again returned to mercantile pursuits. In 190? he and a number of other Pennsylvania located homesteads near Berthold, North Dakota. In 1910 he moved to Moore, Montana, where he leased and operated a 1080 acre farm until 1919, when because of the failing health of his wife, they retired and moved to Minneapolis, Minn., where Mrs. Moyer died. Mr. Moyer's address is 2110 Park Avenue, Minneapolis, Minn.

            Mary A. Moyer (daughter of Henry Moyer, son of Margaret Fisher, Christian, John Adam, John Jacob, Sebastian) was born on the Moyer farm, west of Salem, in Penn township, Snyder County, Pa., on Apr. 17, 1866. Her mother was Mary Dagle. She attended the local schools and on _______ 1886 married Dr. George P. Miller, who was born in Penn Township, Snyder County, Pa., on Jan. 9, 1867, the son of the Hon. Charles Miller and his wife, Lydia Kantz. Dr. Miller attended the rural schools of his section and then entered Missionary Institute, now Susquehanna University, Selinsgrove, Pa. He taught in the public schools for three years and then entered the Medico-Chirurgical College in Philadelphia, graduating with the M.D. degree in 1891. He practiced at Middle­burg, Pa., for three years and then because of failing health relinquished his practice. He died at Kane, Pa., on Sep. 18, 1895. They had one daughter.

            On Apr. 28, 1898, Mrs. Miller married the Rev. Harvey G. Snable, who was born near the city of Easton, Northampton County, Pa., on Feb. 21, 1867. he attended the local schools and Gaston Academy, after which he entered Lafayette College, graduating with the A.B. degree in 1889. Following this he entered the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Mount Airy, Philadelphia, graduating in 1892. Before graduation, he received a call to become the pastor of the Lutheran Charge at Freeburg, Snyder County, Pa., which he accepted. In the fall of 1896 the parish was divided and he became pastor of churches at Salem, Globe Hills, and Erdlys, a position which he still holds after nearly 40 years. Rev. Snable is loved by all who know him. The Snables lived in a beautiful home near the Salem church until the spring of 1927, when they built a fine home in Selinsgrove, and moved there. Their address is 222 West Chestnut Street. The Snables have no children.

            Annie Margaret Moyer (daughter of Henry Moyer, son of Margaret Fisher, Christian, John Adam, John Jacob, Sebastian) was the fifth of the eleven children of Mary Dagle and her husband Henry Moyer. She was born on the old Moyer farm, west of Salem, Penn Township, Snyder County, Pa., on Apr. 29, 1867. She attended the local schools and at the age of fourteen became a member of the Lutheran Church at Salem. On Sep. 1, 1892, she married Professor John I. Woodruff, a native of Penn Township. Mrs. Woodruff is a member of the Faculty Club, the Ladies Auxiliary of Susquehanna University, and the Republican Party. John Irwin Woodruff, son of Henry Woodruff and his wife, Barbara Klingler, was born on a farm near Salem, Penn Township, Snyder County, Pa., on Nov. 24, 1864. He attended the local public schools and after a brief preparation taught a rural school for two years. He then entered the Missionary Institute, now Susquehanna University, graduating from the junior college course in 1888, the same fall he entered Bucknell University at Lewisburg, Pa., graduating with the A.B. degree in 1890. Three years later, Bucknell conferred the A.M. degree upon him. Wittenbery College conferred the degree of Doctor of Literature (Litt.D.) upon him 1903, and Waynesburg College, the degree of Doctor of Laws (LL.D.) in 1921. Dr. Woodruff was principal  of the Friends Normal Institute, Rising Sun, Md., 1890 - 1891, principal of the Mifflin Academy, Mifflin, Pa., 1891-92, Professor of Latin and History, Missionary Institute, 1892-1894, President of Palatinate College, Myerstown, Pa., 1894-95, and Professor of Latin and English, Susquehanna University, from 1895. From 1901 to 1904 he was acting President and Dean of Susquehanna, and at the present time is Professor of Philosophy at the same institution. He has given 42 years of his life as a teach at Susquehanna University, and is one of the best known and most beloved members of the faculty. This writer remembers with great pleasure, the days he spent in this great educators classes, and later, when for ten years he was a fellow faculty member with him, the kindly guidance and helpful suggestions. He organized the first football team at Susquehanna and coached that sport for three years. He raised the funds and built the Alumni Gymnasium of Susquehanna University in 1902 (destroyed by fire in Jan. 1934). When erected, it was the finest building of its type in central Pennsylvania. He was in order, the first head, and in consequence thereof, the organizer of the departments of Latin, English, Education, and Philosophy at Susquehanna. Dr. Woodruff has time and again filled engagements as instructor and lecturer at teachers institutes and other educational gatherings. His reputation in this field is state wide.  He has been the commencement speaker at scores of high school graduations. He served his native county as member in Pennsylvania State Legislature for two terms, 1919-1923, and there he was frequently heard on the subject of education, and was a member of the powerful Education Committee. He was the author and sponsor of the wellknown Woodruff Teachers Salary Bill, passed at that time. Dr. Woodruff has been a builder of the spiritual side of Susquehanna, and has often been called upon to preach in various churches of the Susquehanna Valley. He is President of the Board of Trustees of the Selinsgrove State Colony for Epileptics, and President of the Board of Directors of the Snyder County Trust Company at Selinsgrove. He is a member of the Lutheran Church, and the Republican party. He is a Scottish Rite Mason, a member of the P.O.S. of A., Phi Gamma Delta fraternity, Bucknell University Chapter, and Pi Gamma Mu, the National Social Science Honor Society. He and his wife live in a beautiful home on Walnut Street in Selinsgrove.

            Cora Verdilla Moyer (daughter of Henry Moyer, son of Margaret Fisher, Christian, John Adam, John Jacob, Sebastian) was born on the Moyer farm, west of Salem in Penn Township, Snyder County, Pa., on Dec 21, 1873, and died at Pottstown, Pa., on June 9, 1910. Her mother was Mary Dagle. Cora attended the local schools and on April 5, 1894, married Charles D. Gabel, son of John Gabel of Selinsgrove, Pa. After marriage they moved to Myerstown, Pa., but the following year they returned to Snyder County and began operating a farm in Washington Township. In the spring of 1896 they moved to Selinsgrove and Mr. Gabel entered Susquehanna University, graduating with the A.B. degree in 1900. They then moved to Eric, Pa., and in the spring of 1906 moved to DesLacs, North Dakota, where they operated a farm for three years. In 1909 they located at Pottstown where Mrs. Gabel died in 1910. On December 25, 1915, Mr. Gabel married Laura Arbogast, widow of Oscar Kaltrider, and they reside on a farm in Washington Township, Snyder County. Mrs. Gabel is buried at Salem.

Her mother was Mary Dagle, a native of Germany. she attended the local schools, and on Sep 27, 1905, married Walter B. Haybarger, who was born in Erie, Pa., on Feb. 16, 1876, and died in the same city on Mar.19, 1914. He was educated in the Erie public schools and at the time of his death was an accountant and secretary of the Workingmen's Building and Loan association. He and wife were members of the Lutheran Church. They had one child. Mrs. Haybarger lives at 2118 Haybarger Road, Erie, Pa.

George Gemberlin, the son of William B. Gemberlin and his wife, Caroline Fisher. George was born Dec. 16, 1879, on the old Gemberlin farm in Penn Township, Snyder County, Pa. He is one of the best known farmers in Penn Township and has one of the most beautiful farms.

            Franklin Moyer Kern (son of Susanna Moyer, daughter of Margaret Fisher, Christian, John Adam, John Jacob, Sebastian) was born on Aug. 8, 1857, in Penn Township, Snyder County, Pa. His father was Robert W. Kern. His mother died when he was eight years old and he was raised by his uncle, Henry Moyer. As a young man he secured employment in a store in St. Joseph, Michigan, and later he worked at Logansport, Ind. On Apr 4, 1904, he married Jennie Smith, nee Snyder. They lived at Sunbury, Pa., Baltimore, Md., St. Petersburg, Fla., and Miami, Fla. Franklin died at Miami, Fla. in 1934. His widow lives or did live at 461 Southwest 7th Street in Miami.

            Albert F. Herman  (son of Hanna E. Fisher, George, Christian, John Adam, John Jacob, Sebastian) was born in Selinsgrove, Snyder County, Pa., on July 15, 1857. He attended the public schools there until 1875, when his parents moved to a farm in Snyder County and later to another in Juniata County, Pa. On Jan. 18, 1887, he married he married Sarah C. Beaver, who was born on Dec 23, 1862, and in 1888 they began the operation of a farm in Juniata County. Mrs. Herman was a native of the Selinsgrove Section. In the spring of 1901, they and others moved to Benson County, North Dakota, where they prospered. Mr. Herman now owns some 1200 acres of good farm land there. They retired from the farm in 1920 and now live in Brinsmade, N.D.

            Emma Herman (daughter of Hannah E. Fisher, George, Christian, John Adam, John Jacob, Sebastian) was born in Selinsgrove, Snyder County, Pa. Her father was George Herman. She attended the Selinsgrove schools and later lived with her parents on a farm in Penn Township. In 188? she married William W. Romig, and they lived on a farm on the "Sand Hill" in Penn Township. Mr. Romig sold his farm products including berries and vegetables on the Sunbury curb market. Their home burned to the ground about 1898 and they rebuilt, but when an advantageous opportunity came; they sold their farm and moved to Benson County, North Dakota, (near Brinsmade) where they prospered. Mr. romig was a tall, powerful man and a hard worker. He died in North Dakota on _______________. Mrs. Romig was living at Brinsmade in February, 1935.

Her father was George Herman. For some years her parents lived near Selinsgrove, and in 1884 they moved to near Port Royal, Juniata County, Pa., where she met and married Dr. W. S. Groninger on Nov. 6, 1889. Dr. Groninger was born at Patterson, Juniata County, Pa., on Jul. 20, 1865. He attended the local schools and in 1885 entered the Jefferson Medical College at Philadelphia, Pa., graduating with the M.D. degree in 1889. He engaged in medical practice at McEwensville, Northumberland County, Pa., and later at Ickesburg, Perry County, Pa. In 1901 they accompanied other families and relatives to North Dakota, where they prospered. Dr. Groninger and wife have large land holdings and in 1935 were engaged in overseeing them. They live at Des Lacs, N.D.

Some years after her death, Samuel married Nettie Burns of Selinsgrove. Mr. App and both of his wives attended the Lutheran Church. Mr. App is an Odd Fellow and a Mason. No issue came from these marriages.

Her father was Jacob Walter. Izora and her mother lived on South Market Street in Sel­ins­grove after her father's death. After the death of her mother, Izora sold the property and is now (1935) living with friends in Selinsgrove. She is a staunch member of the Lutheran Church and for many years was a teacher in the Sunday School of the First Lutheran.

On May 21, 1891, she married Milton Orwin, who was born on August 11, 1860, in Decatur Township, Mifflin County, Pa. They spent all of their married life Houtzdale and Philadelphia, Pa. Both are members of the Presbyterian Church. In February, 1935, they were living at Philipsburg.

            Dr. George E. Fisher (son of Calvin Fisher, George, Christian, John Adam, John Jacob, Sebastian) was born near Kreamer, Snyder County, Pa., on Jan. 17, 1869. His mother was Matilda Miller. He attended the local schools and graduated from Missionary Institute, now Susquehanna University, in 1888. The following year he taught a rural school in Penn Township, where his mother had moved after his father's death in 1872. In the fall of 1889 he entered Bucknell University, graduating with the Ph.B. degree in 1891. He was then principal of the Friends Normal Institute of Rising Sun, Md., for one year. From 1892 to 1896 he was teacher of science in the Bucknell Academy and assistant in Chemistry in Bucknell University. In 1896 he became Professor of Natural Science at Susquehanna University, and with the growth of the institution, head of the Department of Chemistry, a position which he still holds after a period of thirty nine years with his alma mater.

            On Dec. 29, 1898, George married Lily I. Yale of Slatington, Pa., and in 1899 they built a home at 500 West Pine Street in Selinsgrove, where they have since resided. After completing a course in Illinois Wesleyan University, the degree of Doctor of Phil­oso­phy was conferred upon him in 1905. In addition to teaching on the campus of Susque­hanna University, he has also conducted extension classes for that institution in Scanton, Wilkes Barre, Shamokin, Mout Carmel, Ashland, Northumberland, and Harris­burg. He is an active member of the Lutheran Church, having served twenty-two years as superintendent of Trinity Lutheran Sunday School, and fifteen years as member of the council of his church. He was president of the Snyder County Sabbath School Association for several years. He has represented his church in territorial and national conventions on several occasions. He is a charter member of the Pennsylvania Academy of Science, and for many years a member of the American Chemical Society. He is a Republican, a 32 degree Mason, and a Shriner. In 1908 he helped to organize the Fisher Reunion Association, and has been President of it since organization. He has served as President of the Snyder County Historical Society. He is Treasurer of the Alumni Association of Susquehanna University, and is also Treasurer of the Alumni Fund of the same institution. He is the official chemist for Snyder and Northumberland Counties

            Lily Isabella Yeahl (spelling later changed to Yale) was born on Jan. 28, 1869, in Heidelberg Township, Lehigh County, Pa. Her parents were Tilghman Henry Yeahl and Charlotte Barnes. In 1875 her parents moved to Slatington, Pa., where she attended the public schools, graduating from the high school in 1884. She attended summer normal schools in Slatington and later in at Susquehanna University. She now holds a perman­ent State Teachers Certificate in Pennsylvania. She taught before and after marriage in the schools of Slatington, Sunbury, Shamokin Dam, and Selinsgrove, Pa. She spent some time in training classes of from 75 to 350 young people to portray historical pageants in connection with Mrs. Harriet Monroe, of Washington, D.C., noted traveler, lecturer, and social worker. She has given all of her adult life to sunday school work and is at present missionary superintendent of her church. She has also been secretary of her local mission society for many years. For a number of years, she was president of the missionary society (synodical) of the Susquehanna Synod of Central Pennsylvania (Lutheran). She is a member in and officer of a number of local organ­izations of Selins­grove including the Womans Club and the Eastern Star. She is a vice chairman of the American Citizenship Department of the Central District, Pennsylvania Federation of Womens Clubs.

                           475.  Charles Kessler Fisher ( 1870 - 1912 )

 

            Charles Kessler Fisher -- (son of Calvin, George, Christian, John Adam, John Jacob, Sebastian) was born near Kreamer, Snyder County, Pa., on Oct. 13, 1870, and died near the same place on May 16, 1912. His mother was Matilda Miller. After the death of his father in 1872, his mother movbed to her ancestral home and later to the village of Salem in the same section. He attended the local schools of Middleburg Normal School and Missionary Institute, now Susquehanna University, and taught in the public schools of Penn Township, Snyder County, for ten years. On Aug. 21, 1898, he married Margaret Herman, daughter of Peter and Catherine Herman of near Kratzville, Snyder County, Pa. Margaret Herman was born Dec. 15, 1879. In 1902 they moved to the  Locus Lane Farm of 120 acres, near Kreamer, and some time later purchased it. After the death of Charles, Mrs. Fisher and her family remained on the farm, operating it for general farming and dairying, and this situation continues to this day (Feb 1935). Charles was a member of the Luteran Church and the Masonic Lodge. He is buried in the Salem Cemetery. Mrs. Fisher is a woman of unusual initiative and business ability and is to be commended for raising a fine family of six sons, the oldest of whom was only twelve when his father died. Mrs. Fisher's address is RFD, Selinsgrove, Pa.
