5th great-grandmother widow Elizabeth VAUGHAN and children are found in Shenandoah County, Virginia before 1785. My Follis family was near Luray, Page County, Virginia in the Shenandoah Valley. The Vaughan's were likely from Wales as son John's family recalled he was born in 1755 Wales coming to America with his father and brothers William and James although the same source says he was born in Winchester, Frederick County, or Woodstock, Shenandoah County, Virginia. They did not mention the mother or other children. An email source says the place in Wales was Cardiff, the capital and largest city of Wales. It is not known if that was their residence or place of departure.
- John VAUGHAN born around 1755 in Wales or Winchester, Frederick, County or Woodstock, Shenandoah County, Virginia married Phebe FALLIS January 23, 1790 in Shenandoah County, Virginia. Phebe was born around 1768 in Shenandoah County, Virginia sister of Isaac and died before 1820 in Greene County, Ohio. John died in 1839 Greene County, Ohio with both buried on the VAUGHAN Farm which is now part of the Sugarcreek MetroPark.
- Rebecca VAUGHAN married in 1785 John YOUNG, and in 1797 married Charles BARKER. John YOUNG is important in the family search since Elizabeth YOUNG married Jacob FALLIS, brother of my Isaac FALLIS who married #5 Mercy VAUGHAN. My Fallis' moved to Kentucky and I believe this same Young family also is found in Kentucky.
- William VAUGHAN (1767-by1840) married in 1788 Sarah CANTER
- Molley VAUGHAN married in 1788 Abraham JOBE
- Mercy VAUGHAN born about August 4, 1774 married Isaac FALLIS October 10, 1797 in Shenandoah County, Virginia, they are my 4th great-grandparents. Mercy died August 4, 1834 and Isaac died March 9, 1858 both buried on their farm in the FALLIS Pioneer Cemetery in Sugar Creek Township, Greene County, Ohio three miles north of Bellbrook, Ohio.
- James VAUGHAN mentioned in Vaughan Family Sketch.

Tretower Castle, Wales is said to be the homeland of most VAUGHAN's in America, includes map. February 9, 2007 The Learning Channel featured the castle on their most haunted show. Tours are available. Featured on many web sites even a garden site and is now also a book A Welsh House & It's Family The Vaughan's of Trawsgoed by Gerald Morgan. The author discusses this book in the online Google book Second Stages in Researching Welsh Ancestry.
One interesting part of the family history is the number of FALLIS - VAUGHAN marriages. I should have keep a list from the beginning as I now have over 38,000 names in my files so it will be hard to find them all. Some I have found include:
- My Isaac FALLIS 1779 Virginia to 1858 Greene County, Ohio, wife Mercy VAUGHAN 1774 - 1834 Greene County, Ohio.
- Isaac's sister Phebe FALLIS 1790 Virginia - about 1820 Greene County, Ohio, Mercy's brother, husband John VAUGHAN 1755 Virginia - 1839 Greene County, Ohio
- Phebe and John's daughter Nancy VAUGHAN about 1800 Virginia - 1830 Greene County, Ohio to my Isaac and Mercy's son Isaac FALLIS about 1800 Virginia to about 1860 Indiana or Ohio. Yes 1st cousins!
- Phebe J. VAUGHAN 1820 Ohio - after 1860 to Isaac FOLLIS above who married Nancy VAUGHAN, unknown how Phebe J. is related to my VAUGHAN's, but must be!
- John VAUGHAN son of John VAUGHAN and Phebe FALLIS 1796 Virginia - 1864 Randolph County, Indiana to Sarah FALLIS daughter of my Isaac FALLIS and Mercy VAUGHAN, 1808 Kentucky - after 1870 Randolph County, Indiana. Yes, 1st cousins again!
