The Hoosier State, "Land of the Indians", 19th state of the United States of America became a state December 11, 1816 and has 92 counties. According to Wikipedia we are 15th in population, 38th in land area, with a population of over 6 million people.

Growing up as a child in Indiana a neighbor had a license plate called "Indiana, Land of Taxes" in response to high property taxes under Governor Edgar Whitcomb 1969-1972. In the local Journal Gazette newspaper October 9, 2008 was an item from the Congressional Quarterly "State Rankings 2008" listing Indiana's total tax burden rank as 29th compared to Michigan 20th and Ohio 18th. As a percentage of income including state and local taxes we were 30.8%, with Michigan 31.9%, and Ohio 32.4%. Considering we rank 15th percent in population, a 29th rank on tax burden is pretty good. We do charge the current 7% sales tax on gasoline which makes our gasoline 21 cents more than neighboring states on 3 gallons of gas.

Allen County

I live in Fort Wayne, Allen County, Indiana. Most of my recent ancestors, the last 3 to 4 generations were born, lived and died in Indiana. Most of my ancestor families were in Indiana from around 1805 to 1855 from Ohio. The KINGERY's were in southeastern Indiana in Franklin and Union Counties around 1806. My SCHNEIDER's were the last to the United States in 1881 and Indiana around 1900. As a result of large farm families I have found thousands of siblings and descendants scattered throughout most of Indiana, Ohio and surrounding states.

My grandparents were Milo FOLLIS 1890 born Delphos, Van Wert County, Ohio to 1944 Fort Wayne, Allen County, Indiana and Elizabeth SCHNEIDER 1890 born in Massillon, Stark County, Ohio to 1932 Fort Wayne, Allen County, Indiana. Both came to Fort Wayne by 1900.

Milo's parents were Thomas Jefferson FOLLIS 1856 Somerset, Wabash County, Indiana to 1923 Fort Wayne, Allen County, Indiana and Matilda TIMMONS 1866 Delphos, Van Wert County, Ohio to 1949 Fort Wayne, Allen County, Indiana.

Matilda's grandparents were David KELKER 1801 Lebanon County, Pennsylvania to Goshen, Mahoning County to Delphos, Allen County, Ohio to 1872 Fort Wayne, Allen County, Indiana and Mary HOUSER 1802 Pennsylvania to Mahoning County to Delphos, Allen County, Ohio to 1883 Fort Wayne, Allen County, Indiana by 1869.

A couple of relatives are buried in the Rochester I.O.O.F. Cemetery.

Huntington County, Indiana

My third great-grandparents were George ROYER 1786 almost 90 or 100 years old Lancaster County, Pennsylvania to Montgomery County, Ohio to Huntington County to 1876 Whitley County, Indiana and Sarah SWANK 1797 Pennsylvania to Montgomery County, Ohio to to 1855-1856 Huntington County, Indiana. George may have been born in 1776 and was just weeks short of 100 years old. His tombstone is a 20th century replacement and his obituaries give different ages and birth dates. Their land in Montgomery County, Ohio is now part of Sycamore State Park.

LaGrange County

My grandparents Lillie PROUGH 1891 LaGrange County to Noble County to 1982 Whitley County, Indiana and Jesse ZEIGLER 1886-1977 of Whitley County, Indiana.

Lillie's parents Franklin PROUGH 1864-1891 LaGrange County, Indiana and Cora ZUMBRUN 1872 Noble and 1927 Whitley Counties, Indiana.

Franklin's parents were Peter PROUGH 1808-about 1894 Fairfield County, Ohio to LaGrange County, Indiana to Missouri and Barbara Thurston 1821-about 1905 Wayne County, New York to LaGrange County, Indiana to Oklahoma. Thought to have died in 1905 in Oklahoma but cannot be found in the 1900 census with any of their children. Peter is thought to have died in 1894 on the way to Missouri and was buried along the railroad tracks which they were following. They were last documented in 1893 LaGrange County, Indiana.

Miami County

The EIKENBARY's and FOLLIS's lived here for an undetermined number of years around 1860 before moving to Wabash County.

Noble County

Several families such as KINSEY, ROYER, ZEIGLER and ZUMBRUN's in Thorncreek Township, Whitley County also owned land and sometimes lived in Noble County along the county lines often just a mile or two into either county.

Union County

Several families stayed in Union County for several years before moving on. Mary ALBAUGH and Samuel EIKENBARY, their daughter Catherine EIKENBARY and Thomas FOLLIS and other family members moved to Miami County then Wabash County.

My fourth great-grandparents Martin KINGERY 1774 Lancaster County, Pennsylvania to Greene County, Ohio to 1865 Union County, Indiana and Mary "Polly" WEBB 1780 Franklin County, Virginia to 1818 Greene County, Ohio. Martin remarried to Mary HILDEBRAND after Mary WEBB's death.

Martin's parents Jacob KINGERY about 1751 Lancaster County, Pennsylvania to Franklin and 1811 Union County, Indiana and Franky unknown about 1755.

Wabash County

My third great-grandparents Mary ALBAUGH 1790 Frederick County, Maryland to Preble County, Ohio to Union County then 1871 Wabash County, Indiana and Samuel EIKENBARY 1798 Franklin County, Virginia to Preble County, Ohio to Union County then 1871 Wabash County, Indiana.

Their daughter Catharine EIKENBERRY 1822 Preble County, Ohio to Union County, Indiana then 1864 Somerset, Wabash County, Indiana and Thomas Jefferson FOLLIS 1823 Greene County, Ohio to Union County, Indiana to 1882 Somerset, Wabash County, Indiana.

Thomas' parents Hannah KINGERY 1801 of Franklin County, Virginia to Bellbrook, Greene County, Ohio remarried to Ginnethon KELLEY moved to Miami County and 1858 Wabash County, Indiana. Her first husband Jacob FALLIS born between 1798-1800 Virginia and probably died in 1824 Greene County, Ohio. The tombstone for Jacob FALLIS in the FALLIS Pioneer Cemetery has an age of only 17 years making Jacob 13 when his first son was born. Most likely the age is wrong actually 27 years old.

My second great-grandparents Mary HINSEY 1823 Pennsylvania to Montgomery County, Ohio to 1895 Wabash County, Indiana and Samuel ROYER 1819 Montgomery County, Ohio to 1877 Servia, Wabash County, Indiana.

Mary's parents John Adam HINSEY 1783 Lancaster County, Pennsylvania to Montgomery County, Ohio to 1866 Wabash County, Indiana and Mariah BURKHOLDER 1792 Lancaster County, Pennsylvania to Montgomery County, Ohio to 1869 Wabash County, Indiana.

Mary HINSEY and Samuel ROYER's daughter Mariah ROYER 1856 Wabash County to 1898 Whitley County, Indiana and Jonas ZEIGLER 1858-1902 Whitley County, Indiana.

My second great-grandparents Lieucetta CRAMER 1852 Whitley and 1907 Noble Counties, Indiana and John Henry ZUMBRUN 1851 Montgomery County, Ohio to 1908 Whitley County, Indiana.

Lieucetta's parents John CRAMER 1832-1892 Ohio and Sarah ESSIG 1833-1899 Stark County, Ohio both to Whitley and Kosciusko Counties, Indiana to Charlevoix County, Michigan.

John's parents Jacob CRAMER born 1806-1807 to after 1880 and Mary M. about 1809-before 1880 both Pennsylvania to Summit County, Ohio to Columbia City, Whitley County, Indiana.

Sarah's parents George ESSIG 1790-1866 and Catharine SCHOLLENBERGER 1796-1872 both Pennsylvania to Stark County, Ohio to Whitley County, Indiana.

My second great-grandparents Saba KINSEY 1815 Montgomery County, Ohio to 1888 Whitley County, Indiana and Joseph ZEIGLER 1813 Cumberland County, Pennsylvania to Montgomery County, Ohio to 1894 Whitley County, Indiana.

John Henry ZUMBRUN's parents Judah KINSEY 1816 Montgomery County, Ohio to 1891 Whitley County, Indiana and Henry Sylvester ZUMBRUN 1812 Frederick County, Maryland to 1883 Whitley County, Indiana.

Saba and Judah's parents were Christian KINSIE 1788 Lancaster County, Pennsylvania to Botetourt County, Virginia to Montgomery County, Ohio to 1859 Whitley County, Indiana and Hannah HECKMAN 1777 Botetourt County, Virginia to Montgomery County, Ohio to 1852 Whitley County, Indiana. Christian was a Church of the Brethren Deacon and along with my ZEIGLER, ZUMBRUN, and other families from Montgomery County, Ohio formed the Blue River German Baptist now Church of the Brethren Church in Whitley County, Indiana.

My grandparents Lillie PROUGH 1891 LaGrange County to Noble County to 1982 Whitley County, Indiana and Jesse ZEIGLER 1886-1977 of Whitley County, Indiana.

Lillie's parents Franklin PROUGH 1864-1891 LaGrange County, Indiana and Cora ZUMBRUN 1872-1927 Noble and Whitley Counties, Indiana.

Jesse's parents Mariah ROYER 1856 Wabash County to 1898 Whitley County, Indiana and Jonas ZEIGLER 1858-1902 Whitley County, Indiana.

Jonas' parents Joseph ZEIGLER 1813 Cumberland County, Pennsylvania to Montgomery County, Ohio to 1894 Whitley County, Indiana and Saba KINSEY 1815 Montgomery County, Ohio to 1888 Whitley County, Indiana. Joseph was a Church of the Brethren Deacon and minister who along with my KINSEY, ZUMBRUN, and other families from Montgomery County, Ohio formed the Blue River German Baptist now Church of the Brethren Church in Whitley County, Indiana. Joseph is mentioned on page 40 of Otho Winger's 1917 book History of the Church of the Brethren In Indiana
