My second great-grandparents Barbara THURSTON 1821-about 1905 Wayne County, New York to La Grange County, Indiana to Caddo County, Oklahoma and Peter PROUGH 1808-about 1894 Ohio to Indiana to Missouri. Barbara is thought to have died in 1905 in Oklahoma but cannot be found in the 1900 census with any of their children. Peter is thought to have died in 1894 on the way to Missouri and buried along the railroad tracks which they were following. They were last found in 1893 LaGrange County, Indiana. Found on page 411 of the Thurston Genealogies 1635-1892 compiled by Brown Thurston second edition 1892 Portland, Maine, John THURSTON family starts on page 357 ACPL 929.2 T427Th V1.

Barbara's parents Daniel THURSTON 1781-1836 Washington County, New York to St. Joseph County, Michigan and Margaret BURCH 1784-1843 Duchess County, New York to Cass County, Michigan. His brother Jason THURSTON married Betsey PAINE a relative of the author Thomas PAINE. Page 409 of the Brown Thurston book.

Daniel's parents Joel THURSTON 1738-1833 Bristol County, Massachusetts to Niagara County, New York and Miriam BLAKELY 1739-1819 Pennsylvania to Niagara County, New York. Page 378 of the Brown Thuston book.

Joel's parents were John THURSTON 1714-1767 Bristol County, Massachusetts to Duchess County, New York and Saberah last name Stodder Stoddard or Seabury which has yet to be clarified 1715-1764 Plymouth County, Massachusetts to Duchess County, New York. Page 369 of the Brown Thurston book.

John's parents were David THURSTON 1688-1759 of Norfolk and Bristol County, Massachusetts and Mercy CAREY 1685 of Bristol County, Rhode Island to Massachusetts. Mercy is supposed to be a Mayflower descendant. I need to do a lot more research to verify this. Page 365 of the Brown Thurston book.

David's parents were John THURSTON 1656-1711 of Norfolk and Bristol County, Massachusetts and Hannah CAREY 1661-1718 of Plymouth and Bristol County, Massachusetts. Hannah was an aunt to Mercy CARY THURSTON, sister of Mercy's father James CARY. Page 362 of the Brown Thurston book.

John's parents were Thomas THURSTON 1633-1704 Wrentham, Suffolk, England to Norfolk County, Massachusetts and Sarah THAXTER 1635-1678 of Plymouth and Norfolk County, Massachusetts. Page 358 of the Brown Thurston book.

Thomas' parents were the immigrant John THURSTON 1600-1685 Wrentham, Suffolk, England to Norfolk County, Massachusetts and Margaret about 1605-1662 England to Norfolk County, Massachusetts. John THURSTON arrived at Boston, Massachusetts on the ship Mary Anne of Yarmouth, England June 20, 1637. It sailed from Ipswich, England in May 1637 with William Goose as ships master. John THURSTON was from Wrentham, England, 30 years old with his 32 year old wife Margaret, sons Thomas and John, and a 23 year old spinster Lucy Poyett.

The Pilgrims on the Mayflower landed at Plymouth Rock in 1620 only 17 years before John THURSTON's family arrived in 1637. You have heard of the Salem Witch Trials of 1692. I never thought I had ancestors that may have participated or witnessed them until I found this family. Who knows maybe they were there?

My THURSTON's left for New York about 100 years later by 1760 and were in Michigan by 1840. The THURSTON Family is well documented in the Thurston Genealogies 1635-1892 by Brown Thurston of Portland, Maine in 1892 shown in the Google book window above.
