ZUMBRUN - ZUMBRUNN Families

Switzerland to Pennsylvania, Maryland, Ohio and Indiana

I have found many deeds, wills, obituaries and burial locations on the families in Ohio and Indiana. The ZUMBRUN family was originally around Taneytown, Carroll County, Maryland. Sons Henry and George moved to the Brookville and Trotwood area of Montgomery County, Ohio. John, a son of Henry, lived in the area of Zumbrum Corners in Darke County, Ohio at the intersection of Zumbrum and Staudt Roads. Children of Henry moved to Whitley and Noble Counties in Indiana. I have yet to document the Maryland families.

My great-grandmother Cora Lee ZUMBRUN 1872-1927 Noble and Whitley Counties, Indiana and Franklin PROUGH 1864-1891 LaGrange County, Indiana.

Cora's parents John Henry ZUMBRUN 1851-1908 Montgomery County, Ohio to Whitley County, Indiana and Lieucetta CRAMER 1852-1907 Whitley and Noble Counties, Indiana.

John's parents Henry Sylvester ZUMBRUN 1812-1883 Frederick County, Maryland to Montgomery County, Ohio to Whitley County, Indiana and Judah KINSEY 1816-1891 Montgomery County, Ohio to Whitley County, Indiana. Henry was a member of the Church of the Brethren and along with my ZEIGLER, KINSEY, and other families from Montgomery County, Ohio formed the Blue River German Baptist now Church of the Brethren Church in Whitley County, Indiana. Their land can be seen in this 1889 plat map.

Henry's parents Henry ZUMBRUN 1783-1857 Frederick County, Maryland to Brookville, Montgomery County, Ohio and Susanna REAM 1785-1846 Frederick County, Maryland to Montgomery County, Ohio. Their land is now part of Sycamore State Park. It appears Henry was in the War of 1812. Henry lived near Taneytown, whose most famous son is Francis Scott Key who wrote the Star-Spangled Banner in 1814 during the War of 1812 after the Battle at Fort McHenry which is now a National Park.

Henry's parents were Johann ZUMBRUN before 1755-1819 and Elizabeth ANGEL 1754-1821 both of Taneytown, Carroll County, Maryland. Query about Johann on Switzerland Genealogy Forum. He is thought to have been a Hessian Mercenary in the Revolutionary War, which indicates he fought with Britain against the United States. Further research is needed to verify this.

Johann's father was Heinrich ZUMBRUN born about 1718 in Switzerland died in Berks County, Pennsylvania.

A Henrich Zumbrun 36 was # 59 on the ship Brothers in September 30, 1754 from Germany.
