This portion of the Tjomsland story starts with one Ole Olsen Skytell and his wife Astrid Olsdatter, both of Norway. Ole Olsen Skyttel was born in Eiken, Norway the 26th of December, 1806 to Ole Arnensen and Todyne Olsdatter. His wife Astrid, was born in Grindheim, Norway, in 1811 to Ole Torejussen Refeness and Raudi Rejerdatter. They settled in Tjomsland, about 45 miles from Eiken in the year 1835. Of their children, there were four boys who emigrated to America sometime in the 1870s to 1880s and settled in South Dakota and then on to Washingtion State. The four sons, were (Big) Ole Olsen Tjomsland, (Little) Ole Olsen Tjomsland, Andre Olsen Tjomsland, and Abraham Tibias Tjomsland. --- As was the custom of some in Norway to take the name of the town they came from, or lived in, these four boys took the name Tjomsland, a practice later outlawed by Norway. Of these four brothers in the States, this website expands upon and shares the story of the Abraham Tobias Tjomsland Line, specifically my grandfather, who died in the 1917-18 Influenza epidemic and his only child, my mom Dorothy Irene Tjomsland.
