Patties Mill & Dalloy
Home: From notes kept by Myrtle Davidson Foster: "Dalloy
was east of 1st bridge east of Paties
Mill about 40 rods from road leading to Galston
and Newmilns. It consists of 50 to 70 acres. The house was stone with a thatched
roof. At Dalloy,
Thomas Gillies worked for Thomas Brown for about 30 years."
(Dalloy
is a farm to the south-west of Newmilns. West Dalloy is next to it. It is
possible that the family lived at West Dalloy and Thomas worked at Dalloy, which
would be the Home Farm. (The name is variable in my records. Also appears as
Dalley and Dallowy.) Dalloy still exists in 2001, but West Dalloy does not.
