| The following information was extracted from the 1890 Special Federal Census on Microfilm No. M123, Roll 29. It is presented exactly as it was sent to me. We are showing the entry number, name, service with, dates of service, and post office listed at time of the Federal Census. It is my understanding that wherever 'HG' appears this stands for "Home Guard". |

Sylvester J. Crabtree, the son of John H. and Margaret Fuller Crabtree was born 21 April 1887 and died 7 October 1918. We have found
no indications that Sylvester ever married, on the 1910 census he is
enumerated within his brother Peak's household and he is working as a
laborer for the electric railroad. Dunham's Webb City Directory for Jasper County, Missouri of 1915-1916 finds hime listed as a miner who rooms at 211 N. Allen. The Oklahoma Soldiers of World War I
website at http://marti.rootsweb.com/wwi/ww1c.htm lists Private, CRABTREE, Sylvester J., he enlisted in
Texhoma and died of disease. Ancestry.com's U.S. Veterans Cemeteries, ca.1800-2006 gives us this information
Name: Sylvester J Crabtree

In three of the children's families, there are several variations of a "Bennett Story", one is that when their parents died they were taken in by a family named Crabtree (however, the children's ages are all about 2 years apart as was the usual spacing between children at this time - could John, James & Samuel have been Margaret ?? children by a prior marriage or simply that John's first wifes' maiden name was Bennett????); another is that John killed a man and when they went West he changed his named to Crabtree (but since they are found on the census as early as 1870, this does not seem likely). The Crabtree's seem to have been a very private family and did not seem to share information readily - which of course has left us with large holes in the fabric of our ancestry.
