Daniel S. Osburn, the son of William and Sally Osburn, was born about 1821
in Gainsboro, Jackson County, Tennessee. About 1843, he married Mary or May Daws,
her parents are unknown at this time, but it is believed that she was born about
1827 in Virginia, she and Daniel had two children before her death of scarfula
in January of 1850 after their move to Union County, Illinois. Scrofula is tuberculosis of the lymph nodes and is a gradually degenerative disease identified by abscesses of the lymph nodes. (1850 Mortality census is the source for her death)

Mary/Mae's death left him with two small children, and on 31 March 1850, he married
Mary Pauline Sheppard, the daughter of Elijah and Frances Rhodes Sheppard. Polly
as she was known to family and friends was born about 1831 in Tennessee and died
11 November 1882 in Lick Creek, Union County, Illinois. (Pension file is the source for Polly's death date but I have not located her on the 1880 census)
She and Daniel had these children
Daniel was a farmer for all of his life, but when war broke out, Daniel S. Osburn (Osborne) mustered into County I, 13th Regiment, Illinois Calvary on 12 Feb 1864 and died of pneumonia on 3 March 1864, 22 days after mustering in. He is buried at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, Jefferson Barracks, Missouri. Records online at Illinois State Archives tells us that when he enlisted the family was living in Makanda, Jackson County, Illinois, and that at age 40, he was 5' 11" tall, with light hair, blue eyes and of fair complexion. After his death, Mary "Polly" filed for a widows pension, and was adwarded August 15, 1864 a pension of $8.00 per month, commencing March 2, 1864, with an additional $2.00 a month per child for the following children, until they reached the age of 16, Mary H., Sarah S., Billy D., David E., Harrison B. Daniel and Polly have been found on these census records
I don't know where Mary "Polly" Sheppard Osburn is buried but Daniel S. Osburn is buried in the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in Saint Louis, Missouri. His grave is located in Section 6, Grave 7769.
