Notice the box camera the woman in the foreground centre is holding. From what I've learned, it is likely one of the earliest "portable" cameras, fairly inexpensive and simple to operate. They were made for the consumer market. This may have been the type that came already loaded with film. When the pictures were taken, camera and all were returned so the film could be developed and printed and the camera reloaded.
The price may well have been about twice as much as you'd pay for a disposable camera today.

Only when I set this up did I notice the older man, second from the left. By the dust-free, crisp look of the women's skirts, I doubt that their stagecoach is standing very far away. The older woman on the left is probably struggling for air in that torture chamber of a dress. The chap on the far right always seems to be either posing rather stiffly.
