Silversmith

  Events in his life were:

  • After apprenticeship working in Barnstable MA. Made beaker inscribed "ye Chh of Christ in Truro 1730." Moved to Bristol RI after 1733 to continue work as silversmith. There is a beaker at New York Metropolitan Museum which bears a mark attributed to him. St. Michael's Church in Bristol has a flagon and chalice bearing another mark attributed to him. A small pitcher and a similar beaker made by him for First Congregational Church in Truro MA are now privately owned. 3
  • He worked from circa 1720 to 1733 as a silversmith in Barnstable MA 3
  • He worked after 1733 as a silversmith in Bristol RI 3
  • Appointed from 1751 to 1755 as Representative in the General Assembly of Rhode Island in RI and again in 1758 and 1759. 3
  • Appointed from 1751 to 1763 as Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the Colony in RI 3
  • Appointed from 1765 to 1769 as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Colony in RI 3
  • Notice of death printed in the Newport Mercury (Newport RI) on 19 Aug 1780.

Joseph married Sarah Paine on 10 Jan 1733 in Taunton MA. (Sarah Paine was born on 19 Mar 1706 in Bristol RI.)
