General notes: Silversmith and Jeweler Events in his life were: • Apprenticed from about 1843 to 1850 to Joseph Moulton in Newburyport MA 10 • He worked from 1850 to 1853 as a journeyman and salesman in New York City NY for the firm of BALL, BLACK & Co. 10 • He worked from 1853 to 1858 as a jeweler in GA 10 • He worked from 1859 to 1860 as a merchant in New York City NY • He worked from 1861 to 1876 as a jeweler and store manager in New York City NY for the GORHAM Company. • He was a partner from 1876 to 1880 with Thomas Shaw in New York City NY as ADAMS & SHAW. The firm, originally started some years before by Shaw, was a principle supplier of plated goods to Tiffany & Company. 10 • He worked as a jeweler from 1880 to 1886 for a variety of firms including FAIRFIELD & Co. in New York City, NEWELL MATSON & Co in Chicago, and JACCARD JEWELRY Co. in St. Louis. 10 • He appeared on the 1880 census taken at Providence RI, listed as a traveling merchant. • He worked from 1886 to 1893 as a jeweler in New York City NY as C. C. ADAMS & Co. 10 |
