• He worked from 1859 to 1860 as a merchant in New York City NY
Listed in the 1859 city directory as a silverplate goods dealer at 17 Maiden Street.

• He worked from 1861 to 1876 as a jeweler and store manager in New York City NY for the GORHAM Company.
At a meeting of the Board [of Directors of Gorham] held at the Office of the company Friday October 15, 1875 the following Preamble and Resolution was unanimously passed:
"Whereas A difference of opinion has for a long time existed between the Agent of the Company [Adams] and the Board of Directors in reference to the management of the Company's interests in New York rendering it impossible to continue the connection it is hereby Resolved That the Agent be requested to resign his Office and that the Treasurer be a committee to make known to him the wishes of the Board and if his resignation be tendered, to accept the same and settle with him all matters pertaining to the Company's interest.

• He appeared on the 1880 census taken at Providence RI, listed as a traveling merchant.

• He worked from 1886 to 1893 as a jeweler in New York City NY as C. C. ADAMS & Co. ¹⁰
