• Apprenticed about 1782 to Joseph Lovis in Hanover MA
  

• He worked from 1795 to 1801 as a silversmith, jeweler, and watchmaker in Portland ME from a shop "at the sign of the Golden Watch" on Fish Street. ³

• He was a partner from circa 1801 to 1804 with George Lovis in Portland ME as J. & G. LOVIS. ³

• He worked from 1804 to 1809 as a silversmith, jeweler, and watchmaker in Portland ME returning to his former shop on Fish Street. Eleazer Wyer took over the shop "lately occupied by Mr. Lovis" in October 1809. ³
