Silversmith and watchmaker

  Events in his life were:

  • He worked from circa 1825 to 1843 as a silversmith and watchmaker in Belfast ME his shop was variously located at Phoenix Row (1832); over store of J. Haraden & Son (1836); corner of Main and High Streets, under the Republican Journal office (1843). A man of keen mental ability, he invented a machine for sawing circular surfaces and an apparatus for steering vessels. 3
  • Advertised in the Maine Working Man's Advocate (Belfast ME), 3 Nov 1831, for an apprentice. 3
  • He was a partner on 21 Apr 1843 with James Emery in Belfast ME as QUIMBY & EMERY, as noted in Republican Journal. 3
  • Advertised in the Republican Journal (Belfast ME), 11 Aug 1843, his mental healing and dropped for a time other occupations. He opened an office in Portland. His most famous patient and pupil was Mrs. Patterson, known later as Mary Baker Eddy, who gave him credit as her physician and teacher and adopted the name, "Christian Science," which he sometimes used in his work. 3
  • Advertised in the Republican Journal (Belfast ME), 11 Dec 1846, noting his work with daguerreotypes. 3
