In 1806, he abandoned his trade, moved to Providence, and became a tavern owner and grocer. He left Providence in 1817, eventually settling in Worthington OH.

- Advertised in the Newport Mercury (Providence RI), 16 Nov 1802, offering his services as a "Gold & Silversmith," from his shop, formerly belonging to Jonathan Marsh, opposite the Post Office. 3
- Advertised in the The U.S. Chronicle (Providence RI), 17 Mar 1803, that John and David C. Snow offered jewelry, silversmith's work and all kinds of tinware manufactured at their shop. 3
John married Mary Thurston before 21 Aug 1802 in Newport RI. (Mary Thurston was born about 1782 in Newport RI and died on 25 Apr 1815.)
