  • He worked from circa 1821 to 1841 as a pewtersmith in Middletown CT taking over his late father's shop.

  • He was a partner from 1841 to 1846 with Ephraim Crofoot in Middletown CT as J. DANFORTH & Co. In 1845, Danforth bought a shop for manufacturing trusses and by 1846 had left the pewter trade.

Josiah married Almira Camp on 17 Nov 1831. (Almira Camp was born on 12 Jan 1808 in Durham CT and died on 31 May 1881 in Middletown CT.)
