ALONZO B. BAILEY AND HARRISON BRAINARD, OF COBALT, CONNECTICUT.

    DESIGN FOR COFFIN-HANDLES.

Specification forming part of Design No. 11,722, dated April 13, 1880.
Application filed March 13, 1880, Term of patent 3 1/2 years.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, ALONZO B. BAILEY and HARRISON BRAINARD, of Cobalt, in the county of Middlesex and State of Connecticut, have invented a new Design for Coffin-Handles; and we do hereby declare the following, when taken, in connection with the accompanying drawings and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this specification, and represent, in— Figure 1. a front view of the socket; Fig. 2, a front view of the bar, lever, and tip. This invention relates to a design for coffinhandles, such as are hinged to a pair of sockets and the sockets secured to the coffin; and the invention consists in the shape and ornamentation of the parts, as hereinafter described, and shown in the accompanying illustration.
The socket represents a pair of pedestals, a b, one at each side, molded at their lower end, and resting on a base composed of several sections, c d e, offsetting one from the other, the pedestals terminating in a spear-shaped point. Between the pedestals the socket A is formed to receive the lever. Above is a scroll, partially rolled at the top, as at B, its end falling down upon the face, and the surface below ornamented by floriated tracery, all as shown in the accompanying illustration.
The lever by which the bar is hinged to the socket represents a molded base f, with a column, g, resting thereon and terminating in a spear-head at the top, as shown in the accompanying illustration.
The tip represents several columns, l, resting on a base, n, and with an open space, m, between the columns. The columns at their upper end terminate in spear-shaped points t, and are joined together by the tip s, as shown.
    We claim—
    1. The design for coffin-handle socket, consisting of the pedestals a b, resting on the base c d e, with the scroll B between them, and the space between the scroll and the socket A ornamented, all as described, and shown in the accompanying illustration.
    2. The design for coffin-handle lever, consisting of the base f, column g, and the spearshaped top h, as shown in the accompanying illustration.
    3. The design for coffin-handle tip, consisting of the detached columns l, resting on the bases n, terminating in spear shape at their upper end, and united upon the tip s, as shown in the accompanying illustration.
