• He worked from circa 1819 to 1821 as a silversmith, jeweler, and watchmaker in New York City NY listed as a jeweler at 117 1/2 Chatham in 1819, 7 1/2 Spruce in 1820, and 257 Broadway in 1821.

• He was a partner from circa 1821 to 1852 with Nathaniel Saltonstall and Asa Spencer in Eatonton GA as D. B. HEMPSTEAD & Co. His place taken by son Daniel in 1852, joined by grand-nephew Daniel in 1882. ⁴
