General notes: Silversmith Events in his life were: • He was a partner from Apr 1837 to May 1839 with Freeman Vilas in Burlington VT selling a wide range of wholesale dry goods. They manufactured combs, tin and iron wares, and silver wares. 13
• He was a partner from May 1839 to 1843 with Freeman Vilas and Henry Loomis in Burlington VT as VILAS, LOOMIS & Co. 13 • He was a partner from circa 1844 to 1848 with Morillo Noyes in Burlington VT as VILAS & NOYES. In 1848, Vilas' share in the business was bought out by Horatio N. and Julius M. Noyes. 13 • Advertised in the Burlington Free Press (Burlington VT), 1 Oct 1845, announcing William R. Vilas and Morillo Noyes as successors to Vilas, Loomis & Co., wholesale dealers in foreign and domestic dry goods; tin plate; English, Russian and Canadian sheet iron; iron wire; wire vellum; sheet and bolt copper; sheet lead and zinc; and manufacturers of tin ware. 13 • Advertised in the Liberty Gazette (Burlington VT), 1 Jul 1847, their assortment of silver table, tea, dessert and salt spoons. "To prevent any imposition, we would add that they are marked VILAS & NOYES, BURLINGTON and all such will be warranted by us as a good article of silver." William married Mary Noyes, daughter of Breed Noyes and Sarah Keeler, on 15 Jul 1834 in Hyde Park VT. (Mary Noyes was born on 24 Feb 1814 in Hyde Park VT.) |
