General notes: Silversmith Events in his life were: • Apprenticed on 12 Feb 1796 to Isaac and George Hutton in Albany NY 4 • He was a partner from 25 Aug 1800 to 7 Oct 1805 with Nehemiah B. Bassett in Albany NY at the dissolution, he was paid $1800 in cash for his half of the stock in trade. • He worked from 1805 to 1810 as a silversmith in Albany NY his sales during this period totaled $22,948. • Advertised in the Centeniel (Albany NY), 17 Jan 1806, announcing he was now working alone. 4 • He worked in 1810 as a silversmith in Salem NY 4 • Advertised in the Northern Post (Salem NY), 28 Feb 1811, announcing his return to Salem. 4 • He was a partner c 1815 with John Sprague in Salem NY 4 Joseph married Margaret Sprague, daughter of John Sprague and Mary Mayhew, in 1802 in Albany NY. (Margaret Sprague was born in 1785 in Edgartown MA.) |
