• He worked about 1790 as a silversmith in Savannah GA from shop on the Bay, near the ruins of the old Coffee House. ¹⁵

• Advertised in the Columbian Museum & Savannah Advertiser (Savannah GA), 1796-1797, offering his services as a silversmith, watchmaker and jeweler. In 1797, he announced his departure for New York. ⁴

• He worked from 1799 to 1805 as a silversmith and watchmaker in Utica NY possibly the first smith to work in that city. His shop was at the corner of Genesee and Whitesborough Streets. ¹⁵

• He was a partner from 1805 to 1807 with John Osburn in Utica NY as BUTLER & OSBURN. ⁴

• He was a partner from 1807 to 1815 with Charles Joseph Jay DeBerard in Utica NY as BUTLER & BERARD. ⁴
