CANTON--the funeral for Anthony David Matott, 19, county road 35, Crary Mills will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church with the Rev. James Bond officiating. Burial will be in San Jules Town Cemetery, Potsdam.

Mr. Matott died Friday at Paul Smith’s College. Death was attributed to possible complications of heart disease, pending a coroner’s report.

Calling hours will be 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Seymour Funeral Home, Potsdam.

Born Jan. 13, 1982, in Potsdam, son of David W. and Lynne Haskins Matott, he was a 2000 graduate of Canton Central School’s Hugh C. Williams High School and was a culinary arts student at Paul Smith’s college.

He enjoyed hiking, cooking, writing poetry and traveling. He had traveled to Ireland and New Zealand.

Surviving besides his mother of Crary Mills are five brothers, Paul, Boulder, Colo., Kevin "Kip," Crary Mills, Loren "Shawn," Buffalo, Drew, Burlington, Vt., and Scott, Chicago, Ill.; a sister, Jennifer Matott, Crary Mills; his maternal grandmother, Louise Gebbard Haskins, Potsdam, a niece and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

His father and his grandparents Elmer Haskins and Wendel W. and Alice Wilford Matott died before him.

Donations may be made to the Anthony David Matott Memorial Scholarship Fund at Hugh C. Williams High School to provide scholarships to a senior who enjoys writing poetry.
